[Biff isn't cheerful today; he's wearing his most serious expression, though he hasn't been robbed of whatever genuine kindness he usually has when talking at length to the Barge.]I want to talk about death. Or maybe compassion. Or both ( Read more... )

Yes and no. I was dead, and then I wasn't.

I died around 30 A.D. I'm a little fuzzy on the exact year.

I was dead for two millennia.

And then I was not.

I believe you. This isn't about whether you want to be here, though. It's about how you're treated when you arrive.

Yes, that is what I mean. I think we lose our compassion because we tell people so often, this is the Barge, you are dead, the dining hall is on level one. We forget.

I am sure some know, but we shouldn't assume.

No matter how many times you deliver news, you should never let it lose it's gravity. It's good to know not everyone forgets, though.

No, we should not.

I try not to tell them. It's difficult enough to be told about the Barge. They should find out in time, and be allowed to mourn for themselves.

I don't know you.

That's a great insight! I'll definitely edit the welcome pamphlet I'm working on to reflect it.

[Right now it says "Congratulations! You are dead!"]

Me too.

...You really get it. About death, I mean. It's a welcome change.

Maybe it's like a in-joke. You had to be there at the time to get it.
