AM I missing something?

You know, I can hardly turn on the TV without hearing about "the president and his eavesdropping....blah, blah, blah." And people are mad...really, really, REALLY, mad about it. I think I must have missed something along the journey. I DO NOT CARE IF THE GOV'T IS EAVESDROPPING ON POTENTIAL TERRORISTS...Hell, I don't care if they are ( Read more... )

the complainers take one of two positions;
1. privacy advocates hate anything that eavesdrops on you. ... I'm not down with this because I think "privacy" is something one citizen "gives" to another... not an "issue" with government involvement in national security. But... the privacy activists are legion and have strong arguements pointing to government excess in the past that have lead to remarkable invasions of innocent people's civil rights. So they have a leg to stand on when they raise their voices in protest.
2. The right to do something as the president... is "a right" and so, people can shove-off. However, he didn't acquire this right following the rules... so it hardly matters that it's a privacy issue.. it could be a budget plan to cut the white house grass... he acquired the "right" illegally (4 l's!!) so he needs to fuck-off and ask for forgiveness. :)

Don't get me wrong, I think people have a right to sound off about anything that irks 'em. HOWEVER, I reserve my bitching for something that makes a rats ass of a difference.

I hear the advocates regarding-- privacy about innocent people and all, but I have yet to hear of anyone who was "overheard" saying something and arrested without a good reason. WHen I see some shmoe on TV arrested for innocent gossip on his phone, maybe then I will care more.

As for being president, you couldn't pay me enough. WHOEVER it is can't do anything right. He would be equally condemned for doing Nothing after 9-11.

It makes me wonder if good ol Bill Clinton (in between trysts in the oval office) had ordered the eavesdropping would have been as criticized by the SAME folks. I kind of doubt it.

I tried for a long time to understand politics, and decided it was an exercise in futility.

Maybe I need a more exciting phone life and then I would be more worried.?

Thanks for responding of course, I ALWAYS love to hear from you.
Aimee :)
