Freedom of expression in forums

I'm a member of a forum that doesn't moderate its members.  They'll ban accounts that spam advertisements for viagra/rolexes/prescription drugs/etc, but that's it.  When I first started posting there I tested the waters a bit with this other established member who was known for going off on people.  If anyone disagreed with him about something and ( Read more... )

That would be a sweet setup, but apparently grown women - mothers and pregnant women - aren't capable of handling their business on their own and need to be policed. It's rather annoying to find a post you've been making valid points on has been deleted because it violates some obscure rule about not disrespecting fellow mommies, and not debating. Oh yeah, did I tell you, they do not allow any form of debate (i.e if you post on a topic more than once, you're debating).

Sounds like a "why bother" type of situation! No exchange, just little speeches! Wow... how sad. Sad that they assume everyone is so delicate and fragile. Disrespects all, imo.

uhhh... no debating? Are they not aware that's an extremely well-respected activity club in countless universities?

so you're not allowed to have conversations... despite the fact that's what forums are for.

I would be sending an email to the parent organization for sure. Let them know how the "site admins" are handling things, and what makes you unhappy. Then I suggest you leave if they don't change anything...

That's the thing tho, the no debating rules are from 'above'. they are just enforcing the rules :(
