Point with which your character has been taken from canon: After his boyfriend finds out what he is and he has to run, early fall of 2010.

Appearance: PB: Daniel Johns

Jason is tall and thin at 6 ft and 135 pounds. He has medium-length, shaggy blonde hair that tends to fall in his eyes most of the time . Being blind, Jason usually wears sunglasses when he goes out and carries a cane. He has full lips, set in a longish face, and likes to smile, though this quickly turns into a pout when things aren’t going his way. He has long limbs and due to his weight is rather bony, a look exacerbated by the fact that he doesn’t eat very much. Clothing tends toward whatever he finds to be comfortable, soft t-shirts and sweaters, comfortable, loose-fitting jeans and worn in shoes. There will be times when his clothes don't match, but that's why he wears jeans in the first place, almost anything goes with them.

Despite being on the taller side, Jason never seems to tower over anyone. He always manages to seem smaller and non-threatening, after all, who would want to hurt the friendly blind guy? A combination of his attitude and appearance means he looks young for his 27 years, and most people would guess him as being in his early 20s at the absolute oldest.

Personality At first blush Jason is a friendly, kind and helpful person. He smiles a lot and is always ready to offer helpful advice or a joke. He’s charming and sweet, appreciative and affectionate to his partner and his friends. He never seems to let his handicap bother him, and if asked about it is more likely to make some sort of joke about the loss of his eyesight. He will not talk about it willingly, except under very specific circumstances. His voice is soft, and often sounds amused, as though he's privy to some inner joke that he hasn't told you the punchline to. He tends to smile a lot, though mostly they are small ones that never really seem to reach his eyes. When he isn't getting what he wants, the expression quickly turns into a pout and he has been known to sulk for quite awhile when he doesn't get his way.

While he is very good at presenting an outer face of someone that is kind and caring, in reality Jason is remarkably selfish. He uses his empathic powers to be what people want him to be, to respond how they want him to respond. While he enjoys what little independence he still has, he has a habit of getting older boyfriends who want someone younger to be with and, to an extent, care for. He has no problem with doing almost anything if it means that someone will give him what he wants. He has an addictive, dependent personality and thrives on physical and emotional attention, getting very moody and sulky when it isn’t provided. He’s also addicted to his psychometric powers, going after every conceivable chance he can to see something using his powers, though the reason for this is easily explainable; through some phenomenon that he’s never bothered getting studied, when he’s having a psychometric vision he can see the vision. It doesn’t extend to the real world, but whatever the vision he gets from an object is just that, a vision. A sight into a world that is closed to him except for this one peephole.

He enjoys listening to music, having a particular weakness for jazz and blues and his music collection is quite extensive. Favorite foods include sushi, almost anything fried, (good) chocolate, and a good latte.

Jason has mild OCD, encouraged by his blindness. He likes places to be clean (to lessen the chance of tripping) and things to be in order, usually in neat rows (to make them easier for him to find.) He has been known to get angry if his own space is messed with or if things or moved around, and will be agitated and upset until everything is returned to its place.
He tends to speak casually, and likes to give people petnames when they will tolerate it. Overall he likes to be friendly with people and seems to have a talent for sweet-talking them. He is definitely not a fighter, and has very little in the way of self-defense skills. He's a skinny ass blind boy, what are you expecting, the Blind Master?

As far as change... Jason doesn't like change. He doesn't like things that don't follow what he expects and while he can adapt, it takes him awhile and he's much more likely to find a nice quiet corner where he can think things over/sulk until he can figure out what he's going to do next and what his next step should be.

Powers/Abilities CANON: Empathy: Jason tends to have a low level passive empathy at most times unless he's blocking it or asleep . This means he can detect a general mood, the stronger the better. If he actively concentrates he can get more details and layers to the emotions, though after roughly ten minutes this can give him a headache. If he has skin contact then he doesn't have to concentrate so much. He does not have active empathy, that is, he is not able to transmit his emotions to other people.

-Psychometry: The ability to touch an object and see visions of the past as "experienced" by the object. The more important an object was to the person the stronger the visions will be, and the "memories" with the most emotion will be more likely to show up than ones that are more emotional, even if they happened more recently chronologically.

-"Enhanced" senses: More a by-product of having been blind from a young age, Jason's hearing, smell and touch tend to be more sensitive than most people, as those are his major ways to navigate. They are by no means superhuman, but it seemed good to mention here regardless.

Powers/Abilities AU: His psychometry powers fail 30% of the time he tries to use them, and when they do work there is a 25% chance the visions they produce will bring physical pain. His empathic powers are harder to activate, he only picks up very strong emotions unless he concentrates or has physical contact, and concentrating will give him a headache after five minutes.

Character History: Jason Piers was born a normal, happy healthy boy with loving parents, two older siblings and a loving, if slightly odd grandmother that lived with them. He liked to play tee-ball and play with his toy trains, normal things for a young boy and he was considered quite the little charmer by most of the adults. All in all a completely and utterly normal, unremarkable boy.

When he was five years old he was coming home from the store with his mother. There was an accident, and it wouldn't have been very serious, but the young Jason had unbuckled his seatbelt to get something from the front seat, and soon found himself catapulted through the front windshield. His injuries were quite serious, with a severe concussion resulting in trauma to his brain, rendering him blind. It was a miracle he survived at all, so when the small boy started to scream and cry in the Emergency room, it wasn't considered odd, and soon enough he slipped into a coma.

The coma lasted for a full week, and when the young boy finally woke up it was to a world of darkness. Along with taking away his sight, the head trauma somehow woke up his empathic powers, a frightening prospect for a small child in a hospital. It is quite possible that he would have gone insane if his grandmother hadn't realized what his ranting and crying about the other children in the unit was really about. His grandmother possessed the same powers as he did, though she had come into them in her teens and not her childhood. Nonetheless, she took the boy under her wing, teaching him how to shield his powers, and in the process quite likely saving Jason's sanity.

For a time his grandmother acted as Jason's morality chain, making sure that he didn't abuse the powers he had or use them to take advantage of other people. She tried to instill a sense of morals in the boy, and while it worked to an extent, when she died five years later, not as many of her morals stuck as she might have hoped.

Jason never really felt like his family understood him, and while this is a common feeling for children, it was exacerbated because none of them knew of his abilities, and while his grandmother invited him to meet some of her own friends with similar abilities and it was never her intention to isolate him from others like him, he never met anyone close to his own age with similar abilities.

By the age of 15, Jason had gotten remarkably good at manipulating people, and while he never used his abilities for evil, he was also... well he was a vulnerable fifteen year-old boy who had found a remarkably good way to avoid being picked on by playing the ones who would bully him off of the ones that would be sympathetic to him. He had friends, but both his disability and his ability isolated him, and the teen was quite lonely. He became depressed and craved more attention from both his peers and his family, but it became rarer that he would get that.

Then when he was 16 he met Nathan. Nathan was nice, paid him attention, flirted with him and best of all, knew about his powers and didn't judge him, he even had similar ones, which was how the older man (Nathan was 22 when they met) claimed to have found Jason. Jason, usually so well in control of how he felt about things and what emotions he let show, fell head over heels for Nathan. For the first time in years, he was completely and utterly happy.

But Nathan wasn't who he seemed to be. Along with sensing other supernaturals, his powers involved being able to shield his thoughts and to project whichever were the ones that would be most useful for him to let "leak through." Nathan had all the actual emotional capacity of a rock and in fact worked for one of the more powerful area vampires. One that had a taste for young humans with psychic abilities and had sent Nathan out to recruit vulnerable young men and women for his "herd" that he fed from.

Jason's naiveté made him a perfect target, it was only a month or two before he ran away with the other man one night, leaving a note telling his parents he was going somewhere he had no intention of going. Jason Piers disappeared into the night, leaving his family and all he had known behind.

After a few days of traveling, still wrapped up in the fantasy of a happy life with Nathan, Jason woke up somewhere that he immediately knew was not the motel room he had fallen asleep in, curled up next to Nathan. The place smelled completely different, heavy with some sort of incense that made it hard for him to think. And the emotions... distress and worry, but mixed in with intense pleasure and anticipation and sharp spikes of self-loathing. And Nathan was nowhere he could find, though knowing how well the man could shield himself he could have been right next to Jason and he never would have known.

Jason was both lucky and unlucky. Unlucky because he was now a member of a "herd" belonging to a local vampire, Davin. Lucky because Davin believed in keeping his food in relative comfort. He would spend the next two years as part of the vampire's herd, a demeaning if relatively comfortable existence. He never forgave Nathan for what he did, especially once he was told the truth one night by Davin himself. Jason's time in the herd would last for three years.

The (fresh) saliva of a vampire is both a powerful narcotic to other beings as well as being highly addictive. For this reason they are sometimes hunted by those brave or foolish enough to do so, and the results sold on the black market as illegal drugs known as "Tears." One of these hunters came after Davin, killing him and releasing the dozen or so humans in his herd. Unfortunately he didn't feel any need to do anything after that, and they were left to do what they could to survive. Jason and a few of the other more attractive ones soon turned to the world's oldest profession to try and supply their addiction, sometimes working for cash and other times simply for the drug itself. This would go on until he met Harry, the first in a string of boyfriends that he was able to "date," attaching himself to the less than reputable man in exchange for the drug that Harry would provide him with. Eventually the two broke up and the pattern repeated itself several times over the next several years. At least until Aaron.
Aaron was a hunter, like the one that had freed Jason, but he hunted all supernatural creatures, not just for profit but because he viewed them as a plague and a drain on humanity. He was unaware that Jason had powers, and Jason hid it from him, thinking that their relationship wouldn't last very long. But Aaron was different, and Jason soon found himself actually falling for the man, who soon insisted that Jason get clean. It was a painful process, but eventually he did, and the pair was rather happy, even if Jason had to hide what he was from the hunter and was always careful that he never find out.

The tenuously happy relationship came crashing down when an old acquaintance came back into Jason's life. Nathan showed up at Jason's door one day, and when Jason refused to give him money or a place to stay he exposed Jason's abilities to Aaron. In the rage that followed, both at what Jason was and that the man he had been with had lied to him, Jason fled, fearing for his life if Aaron ever found him.

World Background: Jason's world is, on the one hand, very similar to our own. The technology level is the same, the same bands and movies and TV shows. There's global warming and Obama is president and all in all to a normal person there isn't really anything to differentiate the two.

But there is a difference, a second world you could call it, one populated by beings that humanity, for the most part, does not believe in. Vampires and werewolves, the Good Folk and those with supernatural powers, the ability to see the future and the past, to read the minds of others and more besides. There are some who can live among humanity, but many of them eschew the normal world for a different, darker existence. The different groups only unite to make sure that they remain hidden from the normal world, but by and large they are at each other's throats, with fights both subtle and violent according to what is called for.

The vampires are by far the strongest of the groups, seeing the rest as a food source to be controlled and beaten into submission. They keep "herds" of different types of supernatural beings when they can, claiming the blood types are to them as types of wine are to living humans. The conditions in these "herds" varies, everything from the "food" being kept in dungeon-like conditions to ones more reminiscent of harems, all depending on the whim of the master and his food preferences. No one wants to try and keep an angry werecreature where he can rip someone apart after all.

All the different beings have their own social structures, with the extra-sensory humans being the loosest organized and by and large least powerful, though they are also the most numerous. They often ally themselves with other groups to keep from being prey to the vampires, lending their talents as backup to the other races.
