Fan art: Gackt (portrait)

This is quite different from the previous fan art post of mine. This is a normal portrait -I used to draw a lot with this "classy" style. I don't have time anymore to concentrate on drawing as much as I used to have... sad. I started this in November 2006 and today I finally sprayed some fixative on it :)

The contrast between light and dark is really amazing and his hair looks great! I like how the focal point of the drawing is his hands.

I used to hate drawing hands, but then something happened -suddenly I just realized something essential about hands, withour really.. knowing what I learned *lol* Makes no sense, I know. ^__^ Now I love drawing fingers.. it's crazy how much emotion you can stuff into the posture of the hands. That's what drew my attention in the original picture in the first place<3

very good use of blacks in this! high contrast being a fave of mine, there is a lot of movement in this, it doesn't feel static at all, my eye goes to the hands, I'm not sure if you wanted that. It might be nice to see a little gleam in his eyes, as they look completly black, but thank you very much for posting, I would like to see more of your work.

Oh why, thank you :) I loved it that you really wanted to share some of your thoughts with me -as a some kind of artist I appreciate that kind of "reviews" enormously<3

*teehee* You're quite right about the eyes^^ The first person I showed the finished picture was one of my oldest friends, and she said immediatelly that the pitch black eyes make him look all demonic~ *laughs* I was so excited about drawing hands that I wasn't focusing on other things enough (yes, I wanted that the hands would draw the eyes of the viewer -I think it's the posture of his fingers that really forms the atmosphere of the picture).

I will keep drawing and posting, and hopefully you will continue enjoying my art :)

I used to do a formal realistic style, but lately I've gone very sparse and stylized, kind of a merging of aubrey beardsley and manga, go figure!

Oh, you lucky :/ I've been trying to get rid of that formality too, since though I love pictures that are realistic, I think my own personality isn't conveyed enough in drawings made with that style. *sighs* There are days I regard myself as a poor copy machine, nothing more.

Do you have a gallery or do you post your works somewhere? Now I'm very curious to see your pieces of art! :)

ooh my! its good, it really is. =) i like how you kept the whole picture looking very soft yet defined. you used pencils only? your talented! haha. usually pple use charcoal and pencils. -keeps staring the gackt's face- o.O i loooove the hair. have this soft spot of beautifully drawn hair.

i cant really draw people for nuts. and my penciling skills suck. can only sketch with my trusty black pen. hur.

Hehe, i was forced to try charcoal once, and I hated it so much -using charcoal makes everything so smudgy, I can't control charcoal sticks at all *cry*

Pencils are enough for me<3 I love it how I can make even the tiniest details with them :)

Hair.. guhhh. For me, I suck at drawing hair! *lol* It takes always forever to come up with decent looking hair *sighs* I guess it's a question of practising *lazy as hell*
