STUFF! HOLY C*** STUFF!

Jan 13, 2009 00:18

So I've had an eventful 3 days....I'm up there with Katie on the Drama!

I've LJ Cut it for the sake of the "ones who want to see other things on their friends' page than my stories"

Ok, so here's the long version...I suppose...

I took the History Diagnostic Test last Thursday, in my attempt to test out of it and take the Renaissance Music class I have scheduled. I figured: "Hey, I only missed it by 4 last time: with some good studying and smarts I got this no problem."

I should've studied harder. I didn't pass.

The worst part of it was that I didn't know my score or what I missed. Needless to say I was mad (as seen by my last post...=).

WELL I had to schedule the remediation class (I finally gave in)...It's FULL. So now instead of having a class to take...I have NOTHING I can take.

So I frantically search the catalog for something useful that I can take...but all the Theory classes are at the same time as my Choral Lit class. Damn! So I REALLY have nothing.

Then I remembered that the faculty would be in the office that friday to help out newbies with scheduling issues. So I went to town, e-mailing them about what I can take. In the meantime I also e-mailed Dr. MacFarland, the Musicology/History Professor in charge of the test, to ask her about meeting with her concerning looking more into my test. If I can't pass the test I can learn from the test and what I need to work on, right?

After a couple of e-mails back and forth (over basically all of Friday) I got it all setup: Apparently the Stravinsky class that was being offered is a Theoretical style class, not a history class (like EVERYONE I asked thought it was...=)...so I scheduled that. Dr. Macfarland said it was fine to meet on Monday and talk about the test @ 10:30, so that was good too.

After I scheduled it and said "Adieu" to my problem, it gets complicated...again. (*sigh*...)

I recieved an e-mail after I got off of work that night from the Graduate Studies Director: she's all excited..."Hey, I got an override for the History class for you (the remedial one), so I'm gonna schedule it for you first thing Monday morning! Yay!...

...but I already have the Stravinsky class. So now I have both....*thinks* what to do.... [as a side note...this story is about 1/2 over...sheesh it's long!]

So I decide: I'll keep both, and drop the Stravinsky class if I need to. Sounds good for me! All is settled!....NOT. It goes ON! Mwahaha!

SOOO....that's my plan as I go to school on Monday: Go to the Remedial Class, meet with Dr. Macfarland at 10:30, and the day will be peachy: AND I'll know why I failed the test! All the better!...except I have to be at class for 8:30...ugh.

So Remedial is fine (lots of people in a small room, though). Choral Lit was good (kind of exciting, actually), then I go look for Dr. Macfarland in the office...and it gets more fun.

We sit in the Faculty Meeting Room, and she looks at me, asking "So what do you think you missed?"

"Well...I know I missed the Luther question, and I'm not as confident with foreign-named genres, save fauxbourdon. Besides that it's kind of placing it all in context."

She nods, replying: "Let's see what you missed...wait: it doesn't say on here which ones are marked wrong." (My mind goes: "fucking great."

"How do you think you did?" she asks.

"I honestly thought it went very well: I knew I either did really good or bad. I felt a lot more confident because I knew where I felt weak after taking it for the first time."

She looks at me for a second, then pulls out my score sheet...pauses for a second, then says: "You failed by a point."

*HEAD DESK*

[Note: You know what the first thing to go through my mind at this point was? DAMN YOU MARTIN LUTHER! DAMN YOU!...cause I missed that question and I knew it...I'm still blaming him for it, btw]

Optimistically speaking, I know I did better, but I was just SO mad that I was so close...

Then she starts asking me random questions about Music History, in a conversational matter pertaining to the test...ish.

We chatted for a bit: I was honest about my answers, cause I didn't know them all, and I explained why...but I did know a lot of it. Then it hit me...

She's testing my knowledge...

So I get on my game and keep up with her, answering with the most concise answer I can think of for each one w/o sounding ridiculous. Finally, after about 5 minutes, she asks what classes I'm taking (see above for the answer: Stravinsky, Choral Lit, Ensembles basically).

Then she asks my FAVORITE question ever: Do you think you could keep up with the class if I let you in?

(OMFG YES!...or as I said it...): "I was planning on being on top of everything this semester. I'd be more than happy to do the extra work if necessary."

She lets me in!

(I still don't forgive Martin Luther...=)

SO....as a FINAL recap, here's the results. I have Stravinsky and Music of the Renaissance scheduled...finally. I get to drop the Remedial (as if I passed, since I was so close) and take those 2 with my normal schedule. If I wanna drop the Stravinsky I can no problem...I'll be deciding that tomorrow.

And you wanna know the funny part about it all? I have the SAME damn schedule as I did last week. Irony's a bitch...=)

Whew! What a story! Needless to say I'm quite bushed and tired after all that mess. ANYWAY...moving on to shorter and not cut stories...

So there's a hell of a story for ya, lol. Anyway, I wanted to talk about trips and whatnot.

Turns out that my Europe trip is turning sour (they wanna add more cost b/c less are going, but they still wanna do a concert w/an orchestra...but it won't be at Esterhazy...which was one of the main reasons I was going. That and it's basically old people who wanna go...the other students feel the same way...and I was getting bitter about all the changes regardless. There's the short version reasoning).

ANYWAY...this means I'd have muchos cash on me for a different potential trip (if I still wanted to keep the loans for doing something like that). SO...it got Megan and I thinking: what about one of the Cons we were thinking about?

That would mean either Comic Con (July 23-26) in San Diego or Dragon Con (Sept 4-7 [aka Labor Day weekend]) in Atlanta, GA

I know Katie is going to South Korea (have fun! We loves you!), but Danielle, Laura, Megan, Cat and I are all available potentially for one of these.

I'm going to make it a point on here to NOT show a bias to either Con, because I wanna know what you guys think. I would like to talk about it a little more seriously this weekend if possible (not anything final, but I wanna see if people are potentially wanting to seriously look into the possibilities). So DO ME A FAVOR and look at both Con websites and lemme know what each of you would like to do. And Megan, try not to show an opinion before the weekend as well, please, so they can think about it objectively and subectively on their own before you or I influence them=). Nothing personal, just wanna keep it unbias until I hear what they wanna do. Much Love and thanks!

As a final note, what do you guys wanna do this weekend? Depending on jobs stuff I may/may not be working this weekend, but I DEFINITELY won't be available until Sat afternoon (that's if I don't have work...). Let us know guys, and I'll cya this weekend!

...and sorry the post got so retarded long...it happens sometimes...
