IC:

Character name: Koishi Komeiji
Fandom: Touhou Project
Timeline: Post Double Spoiler
Age: Not stated anywhere, but likely at least a couple of centuries old.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Koishi is capable of shooting colourful, magical bullets referred to as danmaku in her canon. She can shoot simple patterns of these, as well as using spellcards to unleash more complex patterns. She chooses to theme her attacks off of love, roses and freudian psychology - meaning MIND TRICKS and HEARTS and THINGS THAT MAKE YOU THINK OF CERTAIN OTHER THINGS. Aside from that, she can fly with ease and has standard youkai abilities like being faster and stronger than a human, as well as recovering quicker from injuries.
Another ability of hers that she uses somewhat frequently is her power to manipulate the subconscious. She can freely screw around with your head, basically. Emotions, instincts, and suppressed memories are all in her control, plus any other function the subconscious has. Specifically, she tends to block them - for example, Koishi can make herself 'invisible' by blocking your brain's ability to recognize her presence. While she's 'invisible', she could stand in front of you but you'd never notice her.
Finally, even when she's not using her power, Koishi cannot be sensed and her mind cannot be read, as an aftereffect of closing her heart to others.
How would they use their abilities?: Koishi would use her abilities to sneak around, eat other peoples food, and probably sleep in their beds at night (basically being a stealth hobo). She would also spy on what others are doing, if it seems interesting enough. Even in combat, she doesn't use her power for much aside from its invisibility benefits, or playing tricks. She sees fighting as another kind of game, and will happily engage in battle with anyone who she thinks is strong.
Appearance: Koishi looks about the age of a young teenager. Her hair is white (although fanart tends to make it blue as well) and is somewhat long, and her eyes are green. She wears a yellow blouse with a green collar, light blue buttons, and long billowy sleeves with black frills poking out of them. Ever present on her head is a black sunhat with a yellow ribbon tied around it, tied off at the side in a large bow. She has a green skirt which gets darker as you go down, and has a rose pattern near the bottom. Usually hovering over her chest is her third eye, a purple/blue eyeball that's always closed and has two veins extending from it. The veins float around her and are attached to her feet through the purple hearts on her boots (somehow.) Here is a picture!
Background/Personality: Much of Koishi's background is unexplained, but what we do know gives us important information as to why she is the way she is now. Aside from that, her personality tends to be interpreted as everything from Love Freak to Stepford Smiler to Yangire. You know what that means? Headcanon time!

Centuries ago, Koishi was born somewhere underground in Hell, and grew up with her older sister, Satori. Their life was pretty tough since they were satori, a species of mind reader youkai (yes, her sister is named after their species) and the other youkai of Hell didn't take very kindly to being read like an open book. They faced a lot of discrimination against them, and it hurt even more as being able to see into their hearts meant that they knew everyone hated them, even if they didn't say it out loud.

Eventually, there came a time where the funding for Hell plummeted, and the part of it they lived in became mostly abandoned, save for the evil spirits and the stray animals that wandered around to eat the dead corpses. Even so, it needed to be looked after, so the sisters took residence in the Palace of the Earth Spirits and spent their days keeping the evil spirits in line as their jobs, as well as watching over the Hell of Blazing Fires which was just beneath their home.

Not without help, of course! Satori picked up a few strays to keep as helpers AND pets - while other youkai couldn't stand being around them, animals respected and liked them for being able to tell what they wanted. Koishi, while playing with their pets made her happy, still wanted more in life... pets were great and all, but having other friends was important too. Her third eye was the source of her mind reading powers, which was what everyone kept away from her for. If she shut it and got rid of root of the problem... everything would be fixed. No more hate, no more fear, no more loneliness. Believing that closing her third eye was the solution, Koishi did what no other satori dared to do before. She severed one of the veins of the third eye from her body... specifically, the one that connected to her head. Problem solved. Right?

Well, it worked, but not without many unforeseen consequences. Her third eye closed, and her mind reading ability was sealed. In return, however, Koishi gained something which was even more terrifying than mind reading - the ability to manipulate the subconscious. Then, every weight that was on her shoulders until then seemed to vanish entirely. All the things she had worried about suddenly stopped mattering as much as they used to... her heart had closed shut along with her third eye, locking her feelings away with it and leaving behind a girl without any cares in the world.

So yeah. From then on, she would leave the palace and spend her days aimlessly wandering around the underground, having lost the strong attachment she had to her home and her family - but not completely, since she came back every once in a while. They couldn't stop her from leaving, as her new power let her come and go without anyone noticing. During the periods where she was home, Satori tried to help bring her back to the way she was before by giving her pets to play with and care for... which had some effect, but not enough to make her open her third eye and her heart again.

One fine winter day, the events of Subterranean Animism happened and back home, one of her sister's pets (namely a hell raven known as Utsuho) happened to get a visit from a god on the surface, eat the dead corpse of the sun god Yatagarasu, and win the power of NUCLEAR FUSION while no one was looking. She got a little crazy and hatched a plan for world domination, but luckily a shrine maiden (Reimu) and a witch (Marisa) came down to put her back in her place before anything serious happened. On Koishi's return to the palace, she heard the story and finally became interested in seeing the surface world. So she went up to the surface, thinking that if there were cool gods who granted awesome powers like that up here, she'd try to get some awesome powers for her other pets too. Once there, she climbed Youkai Mountain in search of the god who visited Utsuho, but instead found the same shrine maiden and witch who beat her! Believing that they must be strong, she fought them in a game of danmaku. She ended up losing, but it didn't feel like a loss. For the first time in a long while, she wondered what it would be like to read minds again. Surely, if these humans were strong enough to beat her family, they must have lots of stories to tell from their other adventures...

Fast forward to next autumn, and Double Spoiler's events occur. Two tengu reporters, Aya and Hatate, found Koishi while she was hanging around the palace and asked to take some pictures of her danmaku patterns. Seeing no reason why not, she agreed and played with them, and after that was over they left. Nothing real important to the story in this game, but it does reaffirm something we learned from Marisa's blurbs on their fight - Koishi likes to fight with a goofy smile on her face, and she does it while barely paying attention to you. It's safe to say that she's either very confident in her strength or still unable to give a damn even while in battle. Probably both.

Basically, Koishi comes off as a friendly, curious, and optimistic girl... with a tendency to act quite strangely. She views everything around her as if it were a dream, showing little self restraint and a poor grasp on reality. Her intentions are usually good, but her choices tend to be made on a whim and without any real thought as to the consequences that may occur, which can lead her to say or do some odd or unsettling things (such as telling the heroines after losing that she'd go on a love-stricken massacre for fun if she had their level of strength). The fact that she grew up in Hell doesn't make things any better.
She lives her life with one priority; having fun. Doing interesting activities, fighting, exploring, and occasionally causing mischief or trolling (go look at her spellcards - she made those for the sole reason of messing with you) are all nice ways to pass the time. But don't expect her to be there for you when your beloved pet dog dies - Koishi isn't reliable for being a shoulder to cry on, and chances are she won't see it as a huge deal... because she can't take anything seriously anymore, y'know.

... except for some things. She cares about her family, really! She just can't show it in a genuinely heartfelt way. And deep deeeep down, the same fears that drove her to close her third eye are lying around as well... but the clues that point to them are kept hard to find. Assuming you can find Koishi herself first, of course.

Have you read up on how the game works?: Plug-in for the Guide is called FlamingFerret. Money is made by taking missions, doing freelance work, or mooching off others!

1st person sample:
[It's a new face! No wait... it's gone. Er, now- oh, it's back. The Guide's being fumbled around with a lot, it seems. There it goes agaaaaaaaaiiinnnnnnoit'sback. A young girl is now looking at you, Thor!]

Did I do it right? [She turns to someone offscreen. You can hear a Vogon start to speak, but she turns back mid-sentence, wide-eyed and unusually bouncy.] Okay, great! Wow, I really wasn't expecting anything like this happening today. If Gensokyo's reeeaaalllyyyy gone, then...

[She pouts, looking down for a few moments... then right back up, suddenly remembering something. She sure recovered from that pretty quickly!]

Oh! Hey Satori, dying and leaving behind your little sister is absolutely unforgivable, you know? [Giggle~] And Okuu, Orin, if you guys are here too, you better come tell me as soon as you can~!

3rd person sample:
Koishi flew as fast as she could, grinning wide while ignoring the struggling in her arms - ouch, a bite - and burst through the doors to the Palace of the Earth Spirits in a fit of giggles. She let go of the shaggy puppy in her hands, letting it tumble to the floor carelessly. It yelped and skidded away, then took a few seconds to try and get back on it's feet, wondering what the hell was happening and who the hell this weird girl was.

She could barely contain her excitement. Puppies are supposed to be playful, and she wanted to play! That's what she suddenly grabbed it off the street for, anyway, and it's not like Satori would mind having another pet in the house. Now, where to get started? So many things to do, so many games to pass the time...

Unaware that the little creature was quickly making its way back out the doors, Koishi began spouting her version of 'welcome to your new house'. "Okay! Starting now, you're officially - well, maybe unofficia - no, definitely officially part of the Komeiji household!" She declared, floating down until her feet touched the floor. "Everything's going to be really fun, I promise! Aaand, as your new owner, I say the first game we're gonna play is-"

-huh? Where's it going? She watched it curiously.

It looked back, then broke into a run.

... well.

Whether or not she was aware of it being scared of her made no difference. She'd already decided what to do next, anyway.

Koishi smiled slyly, moving to give chase. "Tag, it seems~"
