How do you prepare for traveling somewhere new? Do you talk to the visitor bureau? A lighthouse? Friends in the area?

It depends on the context. When I came here for the first time I did a lot of looking around on the internet, and I wrote to anyone here who I had any kind of connection with. Other than that, traveling somewhere new has usually meant going on some kind of business trip, and I was pretty much always with a group of people once I got to whatever hotel I was staying at, so I didn't have much reason to do a lot of my own research.

It wouldn't have occurred to me to look for a visitor's bureau or a lighthouse, but doing those things can't hurt.

Thanks! Sounding like an uphill battle to get information out, but teaming up with a visitor's bureau or lighthouse might be a good first step. :)
