Standing Work Station

So on an impulse, I set my desk at work up to be a standing work station to try it out. I have no idea how long I will keep it like this or even if it is really a good idea. I did it around 10 AM this morning and it is near 4 ( Read more... )

Standing still for prolonged periods is hard on the circulation, as I understand it; it's supposedly a significant cause of varicose veins, for example.

I am not standing still, I spent the day (so far) shifting from one foot to another, bending my knees and taking frequent quick little walks. I cannot imagine sitting on your ass all day being better for you.

I think I am finally light enough that this won't be hell on my frame.

Yes, moving around is best; this applies to sitting jobs too. Fortunately, I spend a lot of my day away from my desk on the walk and talk circuit.

When I was in Oregon, I got to see one of my co-worker's setup.

He has the best of both worlds.

He has a desk with both seating section and standing section.

And he also has a stool type chair so that he can seat at his standing desk if he needs to.

I though it was a neat setup.

If you do it long term, you might want to get a good mat to stand on.
