I am now in the position of "put up or shut up." After a great deal of internal grousing and a significantly smaller portion of useful activities like dedicated job searching, I've been offered a job that is an upgrade from part time to full time, with all the concomitant benefits one may expect, a decidedly rough schedule -- 4 AM to 1 PM, Tuesday ( Read more... )

Oh, it's the morning news and master control at the local TV station. Same place I used to work, doing more or less the same thing, just a different time of day.

Awww, I am sorry to hear about Stella Blue. Giving up a walk to work is pretty dismal, too. Where is the new job, location-wise?

Is the marginal increase in pay an increase in total pay, or pay per hour? If it's a cut in pay per hour and just an increase in total pay, I would totally be hesitating about this, just like you are.

It's down Shelburne Road, up the hill behind Justin's apartment. Certainly bikable, but it never stopped taking the wind out of me when I did so before.

And yes, it's a drop in hourly pay, with an increase overall because of more hours.

I don't know, man. This sounds pretty dismal all around. I'm not sure how desperate your current situation is, but switching to more hours at lower pay, and only adding a tiny bit of money and dental... You might check into third-party dental insurances. Vermont might have various programs that allow you to pay pretty reduced rates. With the free time you have now, you might be able to get some kind of freelancing work? I know that the job situation in VT is pretty bad, but you don't want to wedge yourself into a recipe for insomnia and no free time.
