I'm all the way back to the sharks. In a tangent that didn't have much to do with evolutionary relatedness, he says that Thresher sharks have been known to decaptitate aggressive fishermen with one swipe of their tail. That's why sea monsters terrify me.

What book is this, pray tell? Because I've learned some fascinating things re: platypi mammary glands and such in the past few days, and wouldn't be averse to reading this myself.

how silly of me. It's called "The Ancestor's Tale" by Richard Dawkins. It's about a jillion pages, but you academicky types probably won't be intimidated by that.
