To Your Rescue

The room was illuminated by only the glow of the television that Junhyung was watching. Hyunseung was the only other person in the house. He was in their room doing something, and Junhyung just let him be at his request. Just as a commercial started playing, Junhyung heard a loud noise.

What he heard was a crash, followed shortly by a shattering. Glass breaking, he thought. He raised his eyebrow, then stood up and went to investigate the origin of the noise. As he looked into every room in the narrow hallway, he peered into his room to find Hyunseung bent over broken pieces of glass.

"What happened?" Junhyung pushed the door wider and stepped into the room.

"I....broke the lamp," Hyunseung looked up with a painful expression, still blindly picking up bits of the ceramic base of the lamp.

"My lamp! How could you, Hyunseung?!" Junhyung tightened his hands into fists that showed he held tightly because of his noticably white knuckles.

"I didn't...mean to.."

"What the hell were you doing that you knocked it over?"

"I was practicing the routine...I flipped my wrist and accidentally shoved it off the dresser, I'm really sorry, Junnie. I didn't mean to..."

"That lamp cost a lot of money, how could you be so fucking careless?" Junhyung's face was burning with anger.

"I..." Hyunseung started, his face turning red from guilt and embarrassment. "I'm sorry." He ran out of the room, and after a few seconds Junhyung heard the front door slam shut.

"Hyun!" He shouted, but Hyunseung was gone. He ran his fingers roughly through his hair, picked up his jacket, and ran after him.

Hyunseung didn't stop running until he reached another block. He panted as he tried to catch his breath, then started walking. His face was still red and his eyes were burning from embarrassing tears that never fell. All he could think about was what to do when he got back from his walk.

Maybe I could make up for it somehow, maybe I could buy a lamp just as beautiful and expensive as the last to replace it. Or I could withdraw money from my account and give that to him to pay for breaking it, he thought.

Junhyung was now on the opposite side of the street, waiting for Hyunseung to revert back to his original color so he could apologize to him for yelling. He stayed back a few steps so that the older boy wouldn't notice him. Every step that his love took he seemed to feel better, as he usually did when he took a walk. He even smiled. As Hyunseung pressed the button to go across the crosswalk, Junhyung noticed something flashing down the street.

Hyunseung started walking again as the electric box blinked the image of a walking man. He was smiling at the ground, thinking of all the lamps the store could have, and how happy Junhyung would be when he had a new one. He was halfway past Main Street when a car came roaring towards him. He turned and stared at the headlights like a frightened deer.

"Hyunseung-ah! No!" Junhyung dropped his jacket and sped across the street, gaining speed with every long stride he took. His heart was pounding and he couldn't hear anything but the thoughts in his brain telling him to go faster. He finally reached Hyunseung and pushed him as hard as he could across the street, but that's when the car struck the younger boy and sending him flying through the air. Everything felt so peaceful to him, everything was in slow motion. He felt a thud against hard concrete and blacked out.

"...Junhyung..."

"...Junhyung!"

He heard his voice being called distantly, and he saw bright lights. He stirred then mumbled, "Am I dead?"

A angelic laugh bubbled into his mind. It wasn't any ordinary laugh, he knew that laugh.

"No, baby, you're alive."

"Hyunny?" His lids fluttered open and Hyunseung sat at his bedside. He was smiling, and stroking his hand. "Where...am I?"

"The hospital, Junnie. You're at the hospital. That car hit you hard, I was so shocked that you weren't dead once you hit the ground. I guess someone up there doesn't want you to leave me yet!"

"I guess so," he smiled warmly and Hyunseung planted a kiss on his forehead.

"What were you thinking? You nearly killed yourself trying to save me."

"I couldn't let that car hit you! Never! I'd die to save you."

"Why?"

"Because I love you, Jang Hyunseung, I love you so much. I couldn't let you die when I could have rescued you."

Hyunseung blushed and replied, "I love you, too, Junnie. Forever."

Junhyung pulled him into his arms and held him tight, never wanting to let go. "I'm not letting you out of my sight ever again! Please be careful next time, for me."

"I will, I promise you that. Now, the doctor told us that your only injuries were a cut on your head and a broken leg. He's allowing us to bring you home today."

"Okay...well, Hyunny, I'm so sorry for yelling at you. It really doesn't matter that you broke a lamp. You're worth more to me than anything else in the world."

"It's alright, I'll watch myself better when I'm practicing...maybe I should just stick to practicing in the Practice Room, that's what it's made for, anyway."

"Yeah, that would be a good thing to do!" Junhyung chuckled, "Well, let's go!"

Hyunseung wrapped one arm around him and pulled him out of bed. They hobbled over to a vacant wheelchair and Junhyung sat gently on the seat as Hyunseung propped his leg up. They soon rolled out and joined the 4 other members of Beast. When they were exiting the hospital, their right hands were locked together.

drabble, junseung
