researched buddhism a bit today because i was bored. they have some good ideas but a lot of them aren't thought out very well or taken too far ( Read more... )

That is the best way to go about it.

Religions as a whole tend to be flaky, though good ideas can be garnered from quite a few. By no means is any single religion the be all end all.

I continue to look at them as, well, there is no void in my life that any religion could possibly fill. And I don't feel that any of my morals, convictions, or beliefs were influenced at all by any religion but rather my own train of thought.

When you use your head, the need for any sort of doctrine on how to live your life kind of fades away.

agreed, it seems all intelligent people i know think that way. no offense to anyone whos religious :)

I think organized religions have issues. It makes the whole lot of them crazy zealots. Mr. Buddha wasn't looking for a billion followers, he was looking for a religion that worked for him. And then all these crazy assholes took it into their heads to copy him. I think the only religion that matters is the one that works for you.

That's why Joseph Smith was a crazy man. He wasn't looking for a religion to free himself; he was looking for a religion to free a country... the world. That's greed. Not need of something new...
