He'd spent Friday soaking wet, running from dinosaurs, shirtless and sockless for at least half of the time.  By Monday, his cold is in full bloom.  He's feeling particularly cranky, achy, tired and just all over bad.  The rain has quit, but he's too busy lying in bed, trying not to feel too sorry for himself to enjoy it.  The fact that Carolyn has ( Read more... )

Juliet had taken up residence in the hut across from Joshua's just after the dinosaur incident. She was chased by a T-Rex and lived to tell about it - her first thought is that Steven Spielberg must have been brought to this damn island at one point for him to have made a movie about dinosaurs the way that he did.

Her feet are mostly sore, she has cuts and bruises, but she knows that Joshua is sick after everything, so she manages to get her hands on chicken soup. Somehow handling an extra blanket, the soup, and a new book for him, she makes her way to his hut just to check in. Doctors make the worst patients, so mostly she wants to be sure he's resting the way he should be. Opening his door, she calls out softly enough to be heard if he's awake, but not loud enough to wake him if he's sleeping. "Joshua? It's Juliet, I brought some things for you. I'm coming in."

"Don't come in," he yells, though it comes out more like a whisper. He's surprised, yet again, by his own weakness. Failing at keeping her out, he just lies there miserably.

She's not worried about getting sick, she's worked in a hospital too long. She's worried about Joshua though, so she sets up what she's brought before walking empty handed except for the blanket into his bedroom.

"Hey," she says quietly, reaching out to feel his forehead. "How are you feeling?"

He doesn't want to be touched, but he's too tired at the moment to move. He knows it's a kind gesture any way. "Glad to be back here," he replies moodily. It's his best attempt at being optimistic. He's knows about a million ways in which it could be worse.

Carolyn had been so happy to be away from Dinosaur territory, away from the T-Rex and all the mud and rain. She'd been happy to actually get a cast and sleep in her own bed...

Though it had been a couple of days now, and the cast was beginning to get on her nerves. She had to sleep with her leg propped up, which meant she couldn't sleep on her stomach like she liked. Being in a cast also meant it wasn't very easy to get around to different places - which meant she was basically stuck in New Atlantis.

At least she was able to wander around there.

She'd hobbled over to Joshua's hut, nudged the front door open with her shoulder and peered inside. "Joshua? Are you awake?"

His reply is a sneeze followed by the sound of a nose being blown. He manages to lean over so he can peer out of his bedroom and into the living room to see if he's already made it in or not.

"Privacy is just an illusion here," he calls out, sounding slightly annoyed.

"Well I'm sorry... I was just bored and figured if I was, then maybe you were too..." she trailed off and sighed. "I was bored and figured that you might be too... Do you want me to leave?" she asked, looking at him with large eyes - hoping that the pathetic look will work in her favor.

There's a moment of silence followed by a very audible sigh. Then the sound of footsteps, falling perhaps a little harder than necessary before he appears in the living room.

"Come in," he says, holding the door open for her. Once she's inside, he pulls one of the lighter chairs on the porch inside and then drags it back to his room so he can be poor company in the comfort of his own bed. He doesn't bother telling her to join him or even looking to see if she does. He simply moves the chair in and lies down again.
