Character: Tidus
Series: Final Fantasy X/Kingdom Hearts
Version: Kingdom Hearts-verse (specifically shortly after Kairi vanishes in Kingdom Hearts II)
Age: Fourteen
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual (by FFX!verse's standing)
Appearance:
Built like a stick, he's scrawny and doesn't look like much aside from skin and bones with a bit of muscle beneath the surface. He's the shortest kid on the island although given some growth spurts that were seen in the second game, that gives the impression that he might have at least by this point outgrown Selphie and Kairi, height-wise. His most noticable features, ignoring his clothing, are his bright blue eyes and sundusted hair. His hair curls out softly at the ears and appears unruly with a mild sort of spiky nature.
His attire is considerably more docile than his Final Fantasy counterpart although it has hints of that original design bleeding through in terms of color and style. His top is that of an open short-sleeved shirt/jacket: yellow with white trim on the body and then reversed on the sleeves. The navy shorts he wears are uneven in length with his left ending above the knee while the right extends to just below. There's two zippers in total on them with one seeming to be a functional pocket while the other seems nothing more than for show on his longer pant leg. On top of that, he wears a silly looking fanny pack as a belt. And lastly, he wears a generally ordinary pair of sandals black and yellow in color.
Personality:
Tidus comes off with a 100% durp streak that could run a mile wide. About the only one back on the island that might outdurp Tidus would probably Sora. He's constantly all smiles with a side of laughs. His enthusiasm tends to run away with him. Even to the point that he needs a reality check every so often. But it's not exactly a bad thing for him to be as optimistic as he is, really! Someone's got to grin like an idiot! Especially when things seem to be going down all wrong! It might seem irritating or immature, but there really is an underlying method to the madness- a sense of trying to keep steady instead of falling off into the bowls of misery. Although some people might find it as coming off as insensitive. So, he tries to take things with a smile and a laugh whenever possible.
And grin, he does! That doesn't mean that things don't bother him. Oh, they could very well be crawling under his skin although exposed easily given further inspection. Tidus wears his heart on his sleeve. Any emotion is pretty easily read, whether he wants it or not to be. Something that works both for and against him. On one hand, his honesty comes off as genuine and perhaps even intense, making people taken aback by it often. And then drawing them to him. And in turn, Tidus quickly irons out his stance on people. On the other, Tidus comes off abrupt and brash this way. He can makes enemies just as easily as friends in this manner, especially if they anger him. He's particularly vocal when people do. This trait of his also makes him a very bad liar. He couldn't do it to save himself. Because his hesitance and uncertainty by doing so just bleeds through. And he doesn't like to lie anyway. At least not about crucial things that don't amount to inflating his ego more.
Coupled with his earnestness though, he does have a great deal of confidence in himself. He has been described to "consider himself a champ" which entails that he really doesn't bat an eye when presented with a challenge. This leads him to tackle things that might very well be over his head sometimes. If not for his friends' support, he probably would get into twice as much of trouble as he usually does. Tidus doesn't like to back down from a challenge. Partly because he feels like if he does, he'll never catch up to the others and partly because of his pride. Often times people have to directly interfere and prove to him that he's wrong first and foremost in order for him to back down. And force has been known to accompany this during their childhood although it's become a little milder as he's gotten older.
This boldness tends to make him shine though. It combined with his honesty creates this high scale of charisma for him. He may not always string together the best of words at times, may fumble things up, but his persistence to get to the point tends to drive things home. Or at least drive some laughter out of his audience and help ease things. Or it might have the very opposite effect. Because although Tidus can talk the talk, more often than not, he hasn't walked the walk. Tidus really has been sheltered most of his life by living on the island- the farthest he's been from it being the play island. He hasn't seen the half of what's out there making him incredibly naive. An idealist at heart. And while he may have understood what it meant to live on the islands, elsewhere he will find he has a lot to learn yet. And good chances that might unnerve him.
That doesn't mean that he won't accept when he's wrong. But he might be a bit of a "cry baby" about it. Instead of settling things by just accepting them, he might run off and pout. Because he really holds himself high and really thinks he knows a lot about what there is to know. And frankly, he really doesn't like being wrong. It's frustrating and annoying and hurts his pride. And Tidus has a lot of pride. It's what keeps him going even when he feels really behind. Because he knows that he's good at what he does. He knows that he's not completely clueless. So, when things catch him off guard, it aggravates him. And then there are moments, of course, by human nature where he just can't accept certain things immediately. This has dulled down over the last year, but he still has his moments. Getting him out of the state doesn't take much, fortunately. Tidus doesn't like to be that way for long anyway. Again, born optimist!
But that, of course, doesn't mean Tidus doesn't have his truly sad moments that are more validated. Try as he might to remain positive, he'll have his slumps like anyone else. During these trials though, he tends to become vocal. He might snap out in aggravation and displeasure at first. But after, he tends to take them on and solve whatever is bothering him. Always one to try and take his problems by the reins! Because if he just sits back and has a sob story over it, nothing will change, right? The problem will just remain there as it is! And there has to be a way to fix things! There's always a way and he'll find it! Because he's gotta! Only when he's at a loss of what to do does he ever just stop and let it overtake him. He might come off more as more whiny and expressive than even before, shouting at whatever party is involved. Not offensively (usually) but as a desperate outcry for help before holding his tongue and spending some time to collect himself alone.
Much the same does he act when angered. Tidus is just very straight up and bullheaded like that. He won't just let things happen. Not without him having a say in it! He can be taken as very nosy, inquisitive, and jarring in that sense towards people. Someone who will rock the boat without a second thought towards the consequences. In a way though, it makes him out to be a little ironic. For as much as he seems to get on people's last nerve with how he can't let some things go and kind of noses into their business, he was never really interested on what was beyond the islands. He seems to be satisfied with the simple things. For instance, it wasn't like he didn't know that Kairi wasn't originally from them. It was common knowledge. He just... didn't really see much past that. She lived there now. He got the chance to be friends with her. Her, Sora, Riku, Selphie, and Wakka. Tidus can really be believed to just be happy as things were. And there were more immediate things keeping his attention anyway. Just seeing the pieces instead of the whole big picture.
Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths:
Athleticism - Tidus is in great athletic shape due to his interest in blitzball and sparring with his friends back on the play island. It leaves him with fairly good stamina, flexibility, and agility. He's in generally great shape.
Combativeness - He can beat people with a stick. No, seriously. He has a bo staff and he's not afraid to use it. Sora and Riku may easily beat him now, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have any skill at all. Goofing off every day at the islands helped with that.
Charisma - Tidus holds an air of confidence to him that can seem to go as far as narcissism. When he's certain of something, he's certain of something and he'll speak it loudly and proudly, even if it may not necessarily be true in some instances.
Honesty - Tidus speaks his mind and is often times upfront with what he thinks and feels. It's a trait that is double-edged as will be noted later, but it's still a trait that can be seen as a strong quality for it's this honesty that can draw people to him to trust him.
Weaknesses: (Physical and mental)
Lacking Experience - He's had no formal training of any sense and has done little more than goof around with his friends back on the play island. By that consideration, he's never had life or death combat experience of any sort. So, he'll be in for a reality check in this sense.
Stubbornness - Once Tidus is set on something whether by his way of handling a situation or just any decision in general, it takes tooth and nail to even try to make him see otherwise. Good chances this trait could put him in a situation where he's way in over his head.
Cluelessness - Tidus isn't a worldly person. His life was the island and his friends among it, and while he has good social skills, he will be experiencing lots of new situations that he's naive to. Something he doesn't like being told in regards to himself either. He can have a tendency to act up- trying to justify himself. Whether he does or doesn't though is another story.
Heart-On-His-Sleeve - While honesty has its value, it also has its misgivings and Tidus can be read like a book because of it. Despite his good charisma, he can't hide his true feelings very well- and that is, of course, if he even so chooses to try. He prefers to what what he really thinks or feels and that can sometimes get him into a lot of trouble.
History:
On the small island chain of Destiny Islands, three teenagers who always dreamed of building a raft and setting sail to other worlds disappeared on the night of the big storm. Among them was Tidus, the new keybearer.
Okay.
That's completely not how the story goes. But you gotta admit. He probably would have been more than happy to take on the whole world saving business.
Tidus was among the other trio of islanders, those being Wakka, Selphie, and him. He was siblingless with not much hint of parental figures, but considering how bright and cheerful he is and the hint of Sora having a mother (Nice, one liner, Square/Disney~), pretty safe to say he had a healthy childhood consisting of silly antics and trouble making. He would constantly fool around with the other island boys, sparring a lot especially, for years and years.
It would be a surprise then for how much energy he had how little he was interested in other worlds. Yeah, he knew that Kairi was from somewhere else far, far away. But other than knowing that, he wasn't really all that curious, more inclined to work on making up a game with Wakka, their most glorious pet project at the time that his friends started building that raft. He might have had at least another couple months of progress had that night never happened.
But one night, a storm hit Destiny Islands. And with it came creatures of darkness. In the world of Kingdom Hearts, a person is divided into three. The heart which carries their ability to "feel", the soul which holds the memories, and the body which is the vessel that holds everything together. When a person's heart is taken, the heart itself is seeped in darkness to create a variety of creatures all under the same name: the Heartless. And on that day, it was Heartless that invaded the island when the door to other worlds was opened (something that all worlds contained but were usually sealed to avoid circumstances like this). Tidus intended on going out to help the others save the raft because the storm was so terrible only to turn up as Heartless bait just as he made it to the boats.
For a long time, he was lost in darkness along with the islands themselves. When he finally came to, he held no memory of it ever happening. The only thing that was amiss was the fact that Riku and Sora weren't on the islands anymore. And Kairi was suspiciously spacey about things. It always seemed like she knew more than she let on, but he didn't know why and he didn't like to bother her. It was enough that she always seemed to hold a forlorn gaze to her. But even when he did prod her about it, he didn't get much out of her. Still, that didn't prevent the whole island from reacting in worry. Where had those two gone? Despite any search efforts though, neither could be found. Life went on.
And with it, the group started to drift away. As most seem to. Maybe it was because they simply didn't know how to handle losing two great friends, but... Tidus started to spend more time on the islands with Wakka. Selphie would join them on occasion, but it was mainly the dynamic duo of blitzball* enthusiasts that would trek to the island daily. It made for a good distraction, working at their game. Then things really got weird. Why?
Because one day, Tidus heard from Selphie that Kairi was going on about another boy they used to hang out on the islands. Little did they know that far away in another world, Sora's memories were being tampered with. And because links of memories from other people can also be affected by messing with the memories of one person in this universe, Sora having his memories manipulated and torn apart to be reconstructed meant that his friends were affected, too. So, for a while, everyone on the island forgot about him. So, of course, this set Tidus in a fritz. What in the world was Kairi going on about? Had she gone bats because Riku was gone?
And then one day? The memories finally came back to him. Unfortunately, that was also the day that Kairi disappeared, too! Just out of thin air, poof, gone! They searched for her day and night. It was actually during one of those searches that Tidus ducked into the old secret place. Well. At least that was what he thought he did. Turned out the next thing he knew, he was standing before a strange gate leading into a city he had never seen before.

Sample First Person Journal post:
So, I've been thinking.
This place can be a little on the dull side, you know? Same old, same old. Domes and shops and shops and domes and- you know! It's really not much fun if all you can do is shop! Isn't there something better they've got to do around here? Like, say.... Blitzball?
It's a game me and Wakka were working on together back on the island, and trust me- It's really cool! Like the best game to ever hit the islands! Not even kidding you! And I really think some of you would be really awesome at it! ...Not as good as me, of course, but hey! Maybe you'll get lucky!
Anyway, if you're interested, meet up at the Jogo da Crianca at noon tomorrow!
Sample Third Person post: (At least three five-sentence paragraphs, please!)
Jeez, just how long did it really take to go in, check on something, figure out if you want it, and buy it? Apparently too long for his tastes... and it was making him all kinds of antsy. Seriously, this was the last time he tagged along shopping, no matter how persistent Selphie was. It felt like they had gone into every single place down the entire street which wasn't far from the truth. But then when you live in such a small town, it's not hard to hit every shop in one day. In fact, it was strange to not know every shop there was out there. Regardless, that didn't make it any less true that it had been an excruciatingly long day for him and it only got longer when Wakka found a valid excuse to dismiss himself from this venture. One that Tidus would have rode along with had Selphie not given him that look of hers that told him he better not go running off. So, there he was tapping his foot impatiently outside of the clothing store they were currently spalorking within, feeling like a pack mule with the bags he was hanging onto.
They being Selphie and Kairi. Who was heavily the reason why Selphie had been so persistent. And Tidus could understand why. With Sora and Riku gone from the islands, she had grown quieter and quieter over the past year. Not going to the play island. Not really hanging around him and Wakka anymore. He understood it at first. Because, hey, he had been friends with that dynamic duo as well. And no one could replace them. But as time went by, he just couldn't dwell on it forever. It wasn't something he could change. They were gone, poof, cap-put. And while he sympathized with Kairi, thinking about that all the time really put a drag on things. And that was when Wakka had suggested that they worked on that old game of theirs that they had forgotten for a while when they had first heard word about Sora and Riku. And then before he knew it, he was on the play island all the time with Wakka again, only seeing Selphie and Kairi every once in a blue moon. Something that they all wanted to change. But it was awkward- at least to talk about.
So, he didn't talk about it. Was there instead and waiting... Waiting... Finally, he heard footsteps and looked up. Ah, there they were with an additional parcel to their collection. He couldn't help the way he almost pouted as they approached him, groaning loudly, "Man, it took you guys long enough. What'd you do? Buy out the whole stor-" And smack went the newly collected bag right upside his head. "Ow, hey! Watch it!" The boy grumbled and slid the bags along his one arm so he could probably coax the throbbing feeling to settle slightly before he finally took notice that Selphie was unceremoniously offering the noted bag out to him now. What? Did they want him to carry that for them, too?
"Aw, come on!"
"What, you don't want it? We got it for you, you know."
"But don't you think..." He trailed off and blinked as the words finally registered. "Wait... For me?"
"Yes, you." Selphie almost snorted haughtily... but there was a little smile beneath her demeanor that grew more visible by the second. Tidus eyed her and Kairi back and forth as they smiled at him in turn before hastily taking the bag. Of course, he nearly dropped the ones he already had in the process due to this. But after some minor adjustments, he had his balance set again and his hand freed up properly to tug it open and fish out its contents. At first, all he could do was stare.
Were they... serious? There was no way they had noticed, had they? The alien insignias and the fake language scrawled all over the green shorts he had just yanked out to see. He glanced it over as passively as he could but he couldn't hide the embarrassed flush to his cheeks. This wasn't something a really cool fourteen year old like him was into. At least not around his friends of the feminine kind. Like he cared what Wakka thought, but them? W-Well.... He looked away, trying to disguise his embarrassing gratitude with that returning reluctance to the whole shopping spree. Although the tiny smile that tugged its way to his lips slightly couldn't be erased no matter how hard he tried.
"Thanks."
