NOV. 9 1989- BERLIN WALL COMES DOWN AND MILLIONS OF EAST GERMANS FLOCK TO WEST GERMANY.
...Oh, my caps lock was on. Whatever.
So they let me out of work a little early to celebrate. And as a result I'm a little sloshed (beer was GOOD today). Sorr if anythings out of order.
I kinda can't be bothered to make a cut right now for the videos, so sorry again. Yeah, there's videos in this post. Okay, I lied, I put it under a cut anyway.
Im kinda fuzzy about what happened today but everyone was in really good spirits, so I was too. They knocked the dominoes down infront of Brandenburg Gate (hey, that remind you of anyone, Gilbert?), and it was cool to watch. Well actually it was a little too symbolism-ridden for me, but that's fine, really. Thinka bout ti. it makes sense. Wall came down, dominoes came down. Both had chain reactions. One for democracy, and the other for... well, what dominoes do best. Like I said, it makes sense.
I also took a walk by the Berlin East Side Gallery, which is the longest preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall in the world. As you'll see down there in the vid, they had peopel restoring the art on it. It's cool, isn't? I was thinking Gilbert would like it, but he doesn't like to be reminded of East Germany at all. Once I called him East (you know, like he calls me West) as a joke and he nearly killed me. okay he really just punched me in the face really really hard and freaked out really loudly and threw a really nasty fit but you know what I mean.

It's a news report made on the day after (twenty years ago tomorrow). Look at all those people! Peter Jennings is just talking and they're CROSSING THE WALL AS HE SPEAKS. It's breathtaking. Mindblowing. Someone keeps setting off a party popper or soemthing in the background and it's distracting. But they said some people were going back home after that... why? That doesn't make sense to me. But look at all those Trabants! Or, as Gilbert calls them, "adorable little breaking-down pieces of shit." ...Hes right on that one. They are cute, though. Even if they break down. Look at those people. TELL ME THAT THIS DOESNT MAKE YOU HAPPY.
I remember seeing my brother practically fly off the wall that day. He didn't really get to come home for another year, and that sucked. It was really cool to see him like that, though. I remember crying a lot. I remmber him crying a lot, too. But most importantly, we were all really happy. Like the video said, the wall was something to party on. I think you know what I mean.
This post is getting long and I'm getting bored, so I'm going to go see if there's any beer left (beer is GOOD today). Maybe Gilbert drank it all with his big ol' beer gut (I'M KIDDING. Love you too, bro). I think I'm gonna call in sick tomorrow.
