The closing of the Greenfield Bridge has pushed all the traffic that used to go that way onto the streets that I usually commute on, making my commute much more annoying. My route only has a few blocks of bike lane, and drivers have started using it like an extra car lane during rush hour. For the rest of it, since I'm not fond of filtering past ( Read more... )

The party was good for me and helped my mood a bunch. Or maybe having a mostly clean house and no urgent plans today helped. Probably both. :)

Have you put in a complaint at 311? And do any of the relevant advocacy groups (bikepgh, are there others?) know? Because that's unfortunate behavior, and I wonder if the authorities think it's ok to just use the bike lanes for cars if the traffic is bad. :-P

Yep, reported to BikePgh and 311, and 311 responded immediately to my request to repaint the bike icons in the lanes. Yay! Unfortunately, anything further would require police to give a shit about minor traffic violations in the city, and I expect that to happen approximately never.

That said, even if the bike lane were open, I still run into stopped traffic at Beacon that I can't really avoid, because there are just too many cars on Wightman trying to get to the parkway.
