look at all this food / it's only gonna go to waste

This weekend I had a rare weekend to myself with no major plans. Aside from various standard house chores, some minor repair projects, some closet cleanout, and some time out of the house, I also engaged in a weekend-long session of my own version of solo Iron Chef: Leftovers. This is where I clean out the fridge and pantry of ingredients that ( Read more... )

Ha! Sounds like fun! Although a good part of this is knowing this household, what kinds of things will be eaten, and being able to stick around for a while to continue using it up.

Also, judicious use of googling variations on "what to do with leftover [food]." :)

It's amazing what can be done with leftovers. Creating interesting and new tastes by combining stuff is fun, and helps clean out the fridge. I get to do that occasionally but most of the time by the time I go through the fridge the stuff is no longer useful.

How did it feel to have so much time to yourself? I'll be getting nearly a week of that in April, and already have many things planned to accomplish, stuff I can't do when the family is here.

I looooooooove having an empty house. It happens pretty rarely, and it's just this wonderful cozy, comfortable feeling to me. I also often go out and do more social things, not because I'm lonely, but because I have more energy.

It happens to me 5 days a week, but just for 6.5 hours, so I can get stuff done but not a whole lot, and there is so much to do it's hard to decide and focus. It's also my chance to run errands quickly. When at home I also play stuff on the TV or computer I can listen to as I do chores, and what I play is usually not stuff the rest of the family is interested in.

When I have the place to myself in April (not sure if Duncan wants to be around that weekend) I'll have the chance to be more social and not worry about the little guy. There is Carnival, your party, and the first star parties of the year that Friday and Saturday evenings.

Plus I will be cleaning carpets like mad those 6 days. Since I'll be alone I can empty a room and allow the carpet to dry thoroughly before putting it back together and moving on to the next.

I am, frequently! But a good mug of hot tea and a fuzzy blanket helps. :)
