After such a lovely honeymoon with Eris and moving back into Tartarus, Gordon didn't expect being trapped in a ring of fire. Read FIRE in a Resistance base...the worst part that he actually felt trapped within the circles. "Guys, what's going on?" he asked, looking to Barney for any sign of help, only to be shut down when he saw the fear. "The Free Man is tainted and must be contained in the proper vessel," the All-Knowing Vortigant clarified, a few more Vorts surrounding the physicist and outstretching their claws. Immediately, a twisting motion wrecked through Freeman's body, making him yell in pain. He could sense Eris come rushing to his side and instantly raised his hand to stop. They don't know, don't hurt them! he begged her, knowing all too well the consequences of his wife's wrath upon the innocent... This isn't up for discussion, Gordon-
"Why are you doing this?" he managed to groan out while clutching his stomach for dear life. "They're only here to help," Alyx's voice echoed in the back, her face worried as hell. She knew she and the other Resistance had made the right choice; whatever had Gordon had to be stopped before he was lost forever. "What are you talking about? I'm fine!" "I told you, Alyx, now call the Vorts off! You're hurting him!" Calhoun stepped in, yanking some of the aliens away. "But that witch...thing!"
If the Vance daughter didn't know better, she might have thought the physicist's eyes really did blacken for a second. "That witch is my wife!" The glass vibrated all around, distorting all screens in the area. "The Free Man cannot break free, hold fast brothers!" The eldest Vort rallied, sealing the circle of fire once more. "She changed you, Gordon...you-" "I chose to change! I chose to escape all this! I chose to fix my mistakes, not patch them up! I TRIED TO RAISE THE DEAD FOR YOU!" There was a definite sonic boom at that last syllable as divine blood coursed through the ex-mercenary's veins. With all Vorts on the ground, the fire died instantly, allowing an escape. Tapping into that reserve of Eris' essence was always a risky move, considering he had no way of controlling that kind of raw power. And yet...
The tears streamed down his face as he murmured, "I'm so sorry Alyx...but I can't be who you want me to be...it hurts to see you." In a blink of an eye, he and Barney were gone. When Calhoun came to, he was no longer on Earth but in the shifting sands of Chaos. "What the shit?" he managed to say when he spotted a kneeling goddess tending to her borderline unconscious husband. "I know, I know, impartiality..." Barney heard Gordon whisper with a bloody smile, caressing her face and her mess of ever changing hair. Eris said nothing...she simply kissed his hand then his forehead. "You're pushing yourself, my love."
