The Once-ler had been discussing some things with the Lorax. He had been trying to explain to the Mustache his feelings on his sentence, and his perspective on the whole "being a flipping wolf" issue--and in an incredibly rare moment of genuine sincerity, an apology for his earlier actions. He really couldn't have cared less what the rest of the Court thought of him, but, he did consider the "fur-ball" a friend. (Even if being shot down at his claims of friendship in front of his family had rather hurt the Once-ler's feelings.)

Now, he was walking towards what sounded like piano music and singing, of all things. He wondered what was up.

The Bar-ba-loots and the Singing Swoonies felt saddened about such a song but Freeman shook it off for them, starting the first lines of Gino Paoli's Senza Fine, Without End. He had yet to notice his friend coming up and kept on playing his rather romantic piece. Even Pipsqueak got all lovey-dovey with the song.

He pauses, taking in the song, the googly-eyed animals, and decides maybe he shouldn't interrupt. The Once-ler adjusts his hat a little and turns to walk away.

Too late and Gordon whistles. "Hey love, what're you doing out here this late?" He scoots over to offer Once a seat.
