Busy Day

I canceled my overtime today and went in to Jody's new workplace to help him get things looking decent. We got a late start this morning as I slept in until 8:30 (fondly remembering the days I could sleep until noon!) and then lazed around the house until I found my motivation. Jody had wanted some help painting the walls in his new office, as his ( Read more... )

It's the same as his old job, really, just branching out on his own. The cabinet company he was working for pulled out of Oklahoma, so he's working directly with the cabinet makers to sell their products here. He's got two companies he'll be using so far, and a third if we can come up with a $5000 security bond.

I've helped a sweetie replace the very old cabs she had w/semi-customs. No faceframes, solid wood faces w/glass for the uppers ply for the carcasses & drawer bodies. I used about 4 places to show just what a good cab is and she was amazed at the quality differences. The one blessing in the reno was the space was plumb & square plus the floor was only off by 2 degrees. We used a porcelain tile, upgraded the electric, upgraded the gas line & used a soap stone & butcher block for the counters. The hardest thing was opening a wall out & it took about 6 weeks from start to finish.

Sounds sweet! I'd like to do some similar work in our kitchen. It's a limited space, and the whole house has storage issues. Jody's starting to practice his new s/w using our kitchen, but any real work will have to wait until I finish the second bathroom and can get the floor as level as possible. I'm hoping to start that on Sunday, may be taking a family trip under the house. :-)
