So, in lieu of actually giving us back pay, my store gave us gift cards to the store. I got a $500 gift card to a grocery store. -_- What a lot of employees ended up doing was buying those credit card gift card things, so they could spend the money where ever they wanted. Man ... that sux! Can you load the gift card number into paypal (like a regular credit card) and then use it that way to pay for you OP figures?

I have no idea if that would work. I've never used one of those gift card thingies.

It also sux that your employer didn't give you the option of either taking the back pay or a "gift card". I mean, seriously -- you earned that money, so you should have the option of taking it as cold, hard cash instead of a "gift".

Paypal won't take it, and the online store where I ordered my stuff won't take it. >.< I got so excited when you mentioned Paypal, though. I thought that was the answer for sure.

The thing about the back pay is that officially, the $500 gift card wasn't in place of the back pay. But everyone knew it was only offered so the union would shut up and sign the contract they'd been fighting over for about a year and a half. Kind of a nudge-nudge wink-wink sort of thing.

I did use the card to buy some stuff at the container store, though. ^_^ Those carts work great! I'll have to see if I can find more online stuff that doesn't require paypal to pay.

Can you "pay" this AmEx money to your Paypal account, or something? Have someone "buy" something from you and use this card to pay for it. Then you could just transfer the $500 to your bank account.

Well, apparently, Paypal doesn't take prepaid cards/gift cards for "security reasons." >.< It was a totally good idea, though, and got me really excited!
