So, I have an aphid problem. I have no idea why I have an aphid problem since I never have before, but I guess I blame the UHaul trip. Ladybugs are out, since my aphid problem is indoors in my bedroom. I cannot release a gallon on live ladybugs in my room. That creates yet another problem I'd have to solve ( Read more... )

However, wear rubber gloves or some kind of protection. Lots of poison in the witches' brew you're about to make.

I remember there's something else you can do to aphids, besides ladybugs, but I can't remember exactly what. It's some kind of spray or powder or something. I'm sure Google would know.

I happened to mention to Chrysler that you have aphids on your roses, and he said that all the gardeners he knew on Maui used garlic to control them. He's not sure how the application was prepared; he thinks it was garlic juice in oil or in water, sprayed onto the plants. Not only does the garlic eliminate bugs existing bugs of all kinds, it discourages them from coming back or nibbling your roses. I imagine it may mean you'd have to rinse them before you smelled them, though.
