I was browsing
comunity_quest and I noticed something. There are a lot of posts along the lines of, "I'm looking for a community besides [insert community name here] on [insert interest here], becuase that other community is dead." Then when one goes to check out the community, one finds that it has 200+ members and the last post was 2 months ago. :P Any thoughts on this "passive outlook" on communities?
(Here's my soapboxing, in case anyone is interested.)
To me, it seems like a lot of people view communities kinda like watching a show on television. Somebody else is the producer, and they are the consumer, as opposed to the way in which a real life "community" is supposed to work out, where everyone is a consumer and producer.
I'm not quite sure why this is. Any ideas?
