Ten observations about my moonlighting job...

Mar 20, 2012 02:17

For over a year and half, I’ve led a secret professional life. My primary source of employment, and my heart’s true calling, is in the emergency services field as a 911 responder. And that’s clearly no secret! I’ll tell anybody who stands still long enough to listen about my beloved vocation as a paramedic. However, I’ve been afraid to be honest ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for reading any of it, especially in a sleep deprived state!

It's not as bleak a means of providing medicine as one may think. In 911 (Do you call it A&E over there?), you meet people just as things are falling apart. In the clinic, they've gone about as low as they can and it feels as though the healing is coming soon.

How is it treated in the UK?

Thanks. :o)

WOW DEE!! I love the fact that you wrote this! I also strongly believe in what we do and dislike the stigma our patients have(and us as well). No one ever stops to think of what really happens after the abortion and how our patients really feel. Its not always easy for them to move on. Some take months if not years! If Pro- Life people would see what really happens they would not think of it in the ways they do. For we do nothing wrong all we do is help these women and in retuen they help us. HOW? by giving us the smile that makes it all worth it! Also by DONATING the tissue! They help save hundereds if not thousands of lives ALL AROUND THE WORLD!!!! NOW THATS AMAZING!!! And one of those lives just might be someone who is Pro- Life. I dont expect people to understand what we mean or why we are passionate about this. In reality you won't until you live it and im very greatful that I live it each and everyday! We should no longer be ashamed of what we do but be proud to be part of it all!

Great job covering all the bases. You have touched on some important aspects that often remain unaddressed. Especially pointing out that this is not something that women look forward to. Often this decision is due to the lack of a supportive partner, economics, the health and welfare of their already existing children and many other reasons. It has always seemed to me that people who are opposed to this would better serve their cause by adopting children themselves or promoting a social welfare system that really helps women and their infants.

I'm proud of you for being so kind and aware.

Thank you for your kind remarks. I agree that a different world would make some (most?) abortion preventable.

And all those reasons are why I miss my 'moonlighting' job! And my co-workers!
