Why have you all ruined the purpose of the Masquerade by turning it into a date thing?

I'd rather not sit in the corner all night.

Anonymity might've been it's purpose, but we would've eventually worked out who is who anyway.

Well, working out who is who is half the fun.

All the fun, actually.

I don't think I'll be taking a date. I just said that they could if they want to because I knew that people were already talking about it.

But that defeats the entire point.

I guess you're right. I probably should have asked you before I put it on the invitation. Do you want me to take it back? There can't be that many people that already asked dates? And then if they still want to go together, well they can just figure out who each other is while they're there?

No, it's all right. I don't want to be spoilsport, though the clamour for dates kind of baffles me. You don't need another person to make your life complete.

Besides, I think we're not going with the totally anonymous idea, so it'd be simple to figure out who is who anyway.

I was just telling Hermione that people (ie. those already in relationships) are going to gravitate towards each other anyway. What are you going to do, forcefully separate them? Plus some couple have already ordered matching costumes and I don't think they'd be too happy if you changed the rules and told them they couldn't go together anymore. I know it defeats the purpose, but most "couples" will probably be two friends who decided to go together, so there's still enough single people in the school to still make it interesting. Plus you could always dim the light enchantments to make it even harder to figure out who's who.

Yes, but why 'take' someone? Why can't everyone just go? If, like you said, most 'couples' are friends, then why do they need to be a 'couple'?
