1.       I am learning French at the Alliance Francaise.   Strangely, nearly all my classmates are male.  
2.        Learning the French subjunctive was a great moment.  I felt like a vast conspiracy had been unveiled.
3.       Over the years, I’ve tried to learn Afrikaans, Russian, Arabic, Italian and Swedish.

I know that feeling. The Americans behave as they do precisely because they don't get the subjunctive.
