The Clocktower, New Gotham, Wednesday

So the Impromptu Party was arranged with treats from Alfred (cookies and fudge and some candied fruit) and a cake that Dinah had picked up at the bakery, plus champagne.

Really, she and Priestly just felt like hosting a party. Yup. No other reason.

"Dunno," Priestly said, sidling up to Dinah to sling his arm around her waist and sipping from an early glass of champagne. Look, this potentially required fortification. "Do you think we should have gotten balloons?"

Dinah snickered, leaning into him. "I kinda think that would give the game away. Although if we got them with 'D + P' on them, we wouldn't actually have to announce anything... I was wondering if the cake should have a message on it. Like 'congratulate us.' But they'd probably think we were pregnant."

"Yeah, probably," Priestly agreed. ". . . I mean, we're not, right?"

They had been careful, but, well. You never knew.

Dinah gave him a poker face. "Not unless there's something you want to tell me, Priestly."

Hey! They were Fandom graduates! Stranger things had happened to people they knew!

"There's not, right?"

Jaime arrived with Momoko, his arm around her shoulder and laughing at something she'd said. When he spotted the spread, he grinned and gave her a little shove. "Yeah, I see the fudge," he said before she could say anything about it. "Go have fun. I'm sure I can keep myself occupied."

Once she'd taken off, he looked around for their hosts. "Not that I object to no need for reasons parties, but what's the occasion?"

Dinah grinned and wandered over to give him a hug. "What, we can't just decide June 15th is a great day for cookies and cake and champagne?"

Muahahaha!

"Well, it's certainly not illegal or anything," Jaime grinned, hugging her back. "But if you were going to do that, I would have expected an invite to one of these a couple of years ago."

He put his hands on her shoulders and stepped back slightly, looking Dinah up and down. "You don't look any different, so what's new?"

"This, that, the other." Dinah grinned, handing over a napkin with some cake on it. "Still fighting crime, still taking photos of people doing naughty things, still trying to grow my business-website-brand-what-the-heck-ever." She nibbled another madeleine, looking perky. "Haven't seen you guys since the Barbara's wedding, sooo... How are things with my two favorite romance-turtles?"

Momoko was nibbling a rather large piece of fudge while loading up a small plate with the cake and cookies. And more fudge.

...

Look. Jaime didn't make fudge, Momoko didn't know how, and store-bought fudge tasted so, well, weird and grainy and flat! Ew.

"Hmm. Champagne..." Momoko considered her history with alcohol and New Gotham. "Or make the trip home again without punching people?"

"Um. Well, it'd be nice to skip punching people," Priestly said, suddenly having visions of a really . . . energetic reaction to their news. "Champagne makes you punch people?"

"Alcohol at all. A couple of drinks and I apparently go crazy." Momoko grinned. "You don't remember getting random calls from me and Dinah when we have been out drinking? I can't believe you haven't seen the videos Ms Barbara has."

"I don't remember that there was punching," Priestly said. "But, you know, you could have one glass, right?"
