"This is Dinah Lance! Leave a number or text and I'll probably get back to you as soon as I'm done texting or talking to whoever I'm on the phone with right this very second."

Jaime wasn't worried, worried. Not exactly. He just hadn't heard from Momoko in two days. And had left a few messages. But that was no reason to worry!

He could just... call people. See if she was visiting. That was a calm, rational response.

So he totally sounded calm, cool, and collected as he asked. "Um. Hey. Momoko isn't visiting you by any chance, is she?" Calm! Cool! Collected!

"Hey, you!" Okay, that was not their traditional silly greetings. "...no? I mean, I was going to call and see if she wanted to come by tomorrow, for my birthday-- oh, hey, happy late birthday--"

Wait.

"Jaime?"

"Speaking of birthdays, I hope your present gets delivered on time." He could just pretend that nothing was wrong and Dinah would never notice!

"how long has it been since you've seen her?" Dinah demanded. Yeah, that was so not going to fly.

"Sunday." See how he didn't sound worried there? That's because there was nothing to worry about!

"I just thought she might have ducked out of town on short notice." And missed his birthday.

"Without at least a note? Getting lost in the Rift is you, Jaime, not her." Zing! "Okay, I feel like I'm asking about a misplaced pair of shoes... Where did you see her last? Has Oracle made contact?"

"Maybe she was in a hurry?" Maybe? It could happen?

"And, um... we had dinner on Sunday and she said she had some stuff to do for this job on Monday, and... that was it? I haven't heard anything from Oracle, no."

Oh, man. Should he be panicking? Maybe he was supposed to!

"And she's not answering her phone?" Dinah demanded. "Dude!"

Jaime, you are so not panicking appropriately!

"Call Mrs. Wilson. I'll hang on. Find out if she's been there since Monday."

"I, er, might have swung by earlier today and she wasn't there?" Not quite the same thing, Jaime.

"Gimme her phone number."

Honestly, Jaime, were you going to make Dinah do everything?

"Also, if Moshi is wandering the house by himself, you have to rescue him. And the crabs."

How had he not thought of that? Momoko wouldn't have just left town without making arrangements for Moshi!

"Oh, crap," he muttered, now starting to really panic. "I think maybe I should, um, start a search?" Was that an overreaction?

"Yes. Yes. Report her missing." Dinah paused. "I mean, I know she can take care of herself 99% of the time, but that one percent--" Gah! "And I don't want that 1% to be something we could have found out about the normal way." She took a breath. "Okay. I'm going to get a Portalocity ticket to El Paso as soon as I can. Allright?"

"Um. Okay." Was he breathing a bit faster? It was possible.

After all, if Dinah was worried, then he was allowed to be worried, too.

"It'll be okay," Dinah told him. Action chosen, panic had disappeared. "And then we get to yell at her for worrying us."

"Yelling... Maybe AFTER I hug her hard enough to break a rib or two."
