Jaime woke up slowly. When he realized that there was a weight on top of him, he had a moment of confusion, but then he remembered last night:
The sugar crash had been epic, and a lack of naps all weekend had helped make it happen fairly early. Momoko had fallen asleep almost as soon as she had climbed into bed. It wasn't long, though, before a nightmare woke her up and she sat in bed crying for a few minutes. When she still didn't feel better, she grabbed the stuffed zebra Jaime had won her and climbed outta the bed, dragging her blanket with her. She walked into the room where Jaime said he'd be sleeping. "Jaime? Can I sleeps with you? I had a bad dre... uhm. I mean my tummy hurts." She didn't want to admit she was scared. She was supposed to be a big hero! And, apparently even tiny little Momoko somehow did that one thing that made it impossible to refuse her: she pretended to be okay. He could see that 'be brave' smile that he knew so well in the expression of a little kid, and his heart had twisted. So he'd said yes, of course
( ... )
Well, luckily for Jaime, the case in Saitama had pretty much robbed Momoko of a good sleep schedule, and the past 48 hours of almost pure adrenaline and sugar meant she wasn't gonna be easily woken.
She did mewl slightly as Jaime shifted under her, and in response moved to climb even more over him. Be comfy, Jaime!
Okay, that shifting meant he was holding her more and totally got small sigh of appreciation. Her hand flexed lightly against him as she continued to sleep.
It took a few more minutes, but Momoko's sleep started to get lighter. She resisted, though, clinging more to her 'pillow' and trying to stay unconscious.
Jaime could tell that she was getting close to waking, and his body stiffened in something like panic. "Shh," he said soothingly, hoping that that would somehow help.
That shhhshing noise was not helping, whatever it was. Was it her phone? She moved her hand to try to cover it up, turn it off, something. She wanted to sleep more!
Warm? It felt to Jaime like it was on fire where her skin rested against his, and he was sure that she was going to hear his heart pounding and wake up any moment.
Actually, it was beginning to creep into her consciousness that heartbeat nice and soothing lullaby had changed into a taiko lesson and it was not welcome.
Or, as Momoko finally said, stretching slowly and hoping it would stop: "nnngh!"
Which conveniently also translated to, 'I don't wanna get up 'cause the real world is totally mean and there's probably no cake for breakfast so leave me aloooone."
Well, it did stop. For a second or two. But when Momoko didn't actually wake up right that instant, it started up again. Which was lucky, since the Scarab probably would have kicked into emergency life support mode if it had lasted too much longer.
The sudden movement made Jaime's arms tighten instinctively, pulling her in closer, but only for a moment. Because then he realized what he'd done, and loosened his arms again.
"Morning," he said, blushing himself, but trying to look completely comfortable. Like, you know, nothing was wrong. And he wasn't freaking out.
"Morning," she managed to mumble, reaching to pull up the blanket. Luckily her night shirt from last night had changed into one of her actual night shirts, but still... "Uhm."

He didn't know. He just knew that he had to fight the temptation to lean down and press a kiss to the top of her head.
"Shhh," he said softly, shifting his arm to support her new position.

But at least the touch there did shut him up. Abruptly.

She left her hand there, in case the noise started again. Besides, it was warm.

... Toes?
Momoko frowned in confusion and blinked her eyes open, still very tired. "Toes." She looked blearily up at Jaime and smiled slowly, "Hey you."
Mmm, Jaime.
... JAIME?!
"Ah! Jaime! Sorry!" She blushed from head to toe and sat up, rolling off him and trying to figure out what was going on.
