First and foremost, before I truly begin to give
everyone a proper account of what commenced last evening at the Annual Hallowe'en Gala at the Manor, I must give one and all an appropriate description of the gorgeous costume I wore. I, being the tasteful woman that I am, chose to celebrate Samhain this year as a proper lady of the 1700s. My gown (an original by Vivienne Westwitch) was what one would call a robe a la francaise and made out of brocade, satin, and shimmering taffeta. The robe a la francaise had a square neckline, a bodice which was tightly fitted over the most exquisite corset, and the front was covered by a "ladder" of bows a la echelle. The sleeves, which reached my elbows, were quite narrow and finished with bows above several ruffles of lace which spread in a most lovely fashion over my delicate forearms. The skirt opened out over an underskirt fashioned out of the same fabric and decorated with ruffles, lace, and flowers. In order to achieve the silhouette of the Rococo period properly I wore paniers underneath my petticoats. As I found the shoes of the era to be quite taxing on my pedicured feet, I chose instead to go with a tasteful pair of modern heels also designed for me by Vivienne Westwitch. My hair, of course, was absolutely stunning and soft with ringlets piled high and filled here and there with flowers, silken ribbons, and bows.
Oh, dear me. That in itself took quite a bit out of me. As I still feel a bit nauseous, I think I shall go lie down before I attempt to give a detailed report on last night's happenings. Check back in a few hours for more information, won't you darlings?
