Tell me what you really think...

Mar 05, 2008 08:24

I would greatly appreciate it if my friends (and anybody else who would like) give me an honest critique of my writing skills. I'm not asking for everyone to give me a pep talk, I would really like to know my faults and areas to work on. I feel like most of you have read a wide range of works by me, so you would be best to ask ( Read more... )

I always get a little giddy when I see you post something you have written. You and I have similar interests and every time I read something from you I think to myself, that is how I want to write. I am not good with critical comments or anything like that simply because with you I do not find any huge faults that scream out at me like other writers I read.

I'm not sure what you are looking for in comments, wish I could help more.

Thanks for replying. I'm glad you enjoy my writing. I wish I could write more Draco/Luna, it's still hard to find!

The reason I'm asking for opinions is because I read through some of my older works and I noticed that I had some stories I was really happy with and some that I wasn't that thrilled with. I'm more curious to find if what I think is wrong with my writing is the same as everyone else thinks.

Honestly? I don't think I've ever read anything of your that I didn't like. I've only read your HP and some of your LJSmith stuff, but I think you do a great job with characters. For example, I like the interesting new approach you took to Katie in your latest M/K piece. I'm very nitpicky about technical stuff like grammar and flow, and I've never found your work difficult or awkward to read. It's pretty much always on point with the technical things.

It's rare that I have someone on my flist whose 'fic I will read just because their name is on it, and without trying to flatter you, you're on that list. Your writing style is always neat and on point, and I like your characterizations.

Wish I could've been more help!

Thanks for replying. Wow, I am flattered! I guess I feel like my grammar and technical skills are much worse than what people are saying. I suppose if I had time, I could just drag out my grammar book and study it a little more. Or actually find a beta and stick with them.

I think I`ve liked everything I´ve ever read from you.
I love your Katie and Marcus for example, course I think you get their personalities really well, and you write them just how I see them.
I have read some of your other works and I liked them to, as I have told you, even though I haven`t read the books and therefore didn`t know the characters.
As for spelling and grammar, I find your stories easy to read.
Hope this can be at any help, and I look forward to more from you;)

I think that you are a very good writer, and I'm sorry I can't be more helpful now- I have a major migraine and can't think... but I think you're great, and if you would be at all interested in continuing your claim on Kestrel, I'll let you pick up where you left off :) If not, I get it... More important things- totally understandable :)

Aw, I'm sorry you were having a migraine. My best friend gets those and I always feel so awful for her. She has to lay in a dark, quiet room for a couple hours before it passes.

Thanks for the comment and the offer. I would love to finish the claim. I'll try to post some drabbles today or tomorrow.
