It didn't happen often, but once in a while, the town they were camped outside would be in the midst of a party. There were a few men who stayed behind, but most of the war-weary soldiers dragged themselves in to the dance hall.

They were young, the Confederacy was at the point where the boys didn't even need to lie about their age. The sixteen year old mixed in just fine with the older boys, who were both glad for the help, and sorry to see the youngsters throwing themselves away for a war that was most surely lost.

But that was all put away tonight as the boys pushed their way through the doors of city hall.

Men and women were turning every which way to the strained and tired sounds of the band, but the room held within it's self an air of gaiety and fun, something that had been missing from all their lives for so long.

It wasn't long before all the boys were out on the floor, taking the local girls for a spin.

It was a nice time, but all too quickly it was over. The boys went back to camp, and moved on, leaving broken hearts behind them.
