Every year, my mom's mom and dad (Mammaw and Pappaw Allen--yes, i have my mother's maiden name) has Allen Christmas one or two weeks before Christmas so that everyone can have their own family c-mas and the in-laws too, without having to stress. I love being with the Allens

You should've worn gloves, girlfriend! Sounds like a great time, much more fun than I have with my family. Btw, where do you get a deep fryer for $10?

I have sworn never to do the "big box, little gift" thing to a kid, ever. I remember when I was about 7, my Grandma did that to me--got me a birthstone ring and wrapped it in a huge box filled with newspaper. I still remember to this day how traumatized I was to think that my Grandma would give me a box of newspaper as a birthday gift. (I don't think she clued my mom in to what she was gonna do, so Mom didn't know to make me keep looking...)

Great to hear your having a good one so far, who knew a deep-fryer would be such a hit with the family? And stop stealing stuff from your mom, GOSH! ha, hope your break continues to be fun!

the $10 deep fryer was originally purchased at Wally-world (it's small) by kelly (the one who picked it out fromt eh pile)...the 'rule' is to bring something you would like b/c you may end up with it. So she did, planning to pick it out not thinking that anyone else would want it. i don't think it cost $10, but oh well.....i like french fries....

when Aunt Dawn set Matthew's present in front of him, he tried to untape the side, but it was that shiny plastic kind of paper and the tape stuck too well. Dawn helped him and he made a comment about how he's used to it since i usually tape all the seams on stuff i get him. After he finally got his gift card, he said he said the taped seams aren't so bad.
