I despise being human sometimes. Why does selfishness and indifference have to come with the package? These are the moments when I am blinded by my selfish needs and I see nothing else. I don't see who or what I'm hurting. Yet, even when I begin shake out of this illusion, all I see is indifference. I can't bring myself to care. I may not be ( Read more... )

It's the same dilemma that the migrant farmers in Grapes of Wrath (sorry for the nerdy allusion, but I just finished reading xD) face: the choice between helping the group or fighting for yourself. There's a definite discrepancy as both sides are, at their core, basic human traits. You have to choose between things like selflessness and ambivalence vs things like survival and self-realization.

But I agree with you. We're not perfect, we're not going to make the "right" choice 100% of the time. But the fact that we're thinking about our actions is what makes us human.

A strange look at this but as Mr. Jim Casy said, "there is no such thing as sin. There are only things people do." Things we do do not necessarily make us evil, rather our perceptions and thoughts about them ultimately shape our morality into that of "good", "bad", "evil", "perfect", etc.

Sorry for rambling. Cheer up though; you're far from the egocentric maniac you seem to be trying to make yourself out as =D.

Haha. I have yet to read Grapes of Wrath unfortunately. But, thanks for the long, thoughtful comment though. :) It really made my day (er, crap it's morning xD). I'll definitely keep that profound quote in mind. As controversial as it may sound if brought up in a religious aspect or discussion, I have to say that I agree. In the end, it all comes down to what we believe is "right" or "wrong".

Don't be sorry for rambling at all. I rambled a bit in my post as well as this comment. Thanks again for cheering me up. :D
