Went out with a few friends tonight after vball... Sushi first, then to a couple of clubs. I am a curmudgeon, or something, I think. The clubs this particular group goes to play contemporary "dance" (aka "grinding") music, so I spend a lot of time leaning against things, maybe tapping my finger or foot to the beat, waiting for something from the 80 ( Read more... )

that's too bad that the music you can't quite dance to. The odd time that I do manage to get out, I can manage to rock out a bit on the dance floor.

For awhile I figured you meant that you'd rather see live music, ie a half-decent singer-songwriter or original band. But then you mentioned dancing again.

I don't want to dwell in the 80s & early 90s, I want to rock out to Amerie or whatever is new, as well.

Yeah, it's not really about dwelling in the 80's or 90's though, although I do like dancing to that music... I just want a good song that has some emotion to it. Modern club dance music is just cold and robotic to me; it doesn't inspire me to move around at all =) I'm sure there are great contemporary songs that are dance-able, but I don't often hear them when I'm out clubbing with my friends. This is probably because we tend to go where the younger people are, for some reason :-/

yeah but yeah but... young people need to dance too! Surely there is cool music to dance to that doesn't have "keep on a rockin me bay beh" in its lyrics.
