A/N: don't know. I was listening to this song on my itouch and suddenly started writing this. Pointless little drabble I spewed out. My first fanfiction on LJ. Yikes! It's probably bad and full of typos- sorry~!
Jinki would often find himself lost in the beauty that was Key. It was cliché, and it wasn't anything new. Everybody loved Key. He was strong, confident, cool, collected, spunky- he possessed qualities that drew people to him, made them want to be his friend. Yes, the certain cat-eyed male was quite popular, but as friendly as he was, he had few close friends- important people.
Jinki was glad to be one of these people. He was glad to be someone Key could trust, someone that he could go to for help, or simply company. True, everyone in SHINee was special to Key, but the older male couldn't help himself to feel even more special. It was silly, but the truth.
He couldn't help it when Key came to him, blotchy and red-faced, his eyes puffed up and nothing but squinted black lines underneath his furrowed brows- shut so tightly and holding back an incredible amount of emotion with every sob and shudder that would rack through his body. He couldn't help it as his tears soaked through his shirt, into his being, past his skin and into that part of his heart reserved only for Kim Kibum. This was a side of Key not everyone got to see, a side that held all of his stress and emotions and worries. Hell, Jinki would have even gone as far to say that he was the only one connected to Key on such a level, but he would be lying to himself.
There was always Jonghyun.
Jonghyun was Key's best friend.
It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair, the way that Jonghyun got interact with Key all the time, Jinki would bitterly muse, while said man and himself barely got anytime together. It wasn't fair, how he and Key were close, but Jonghyun and Key were even closer. And it definitely wasn't fair when Key would come to him, crying, and Jinki would hold him close, so, so close, while he cried. About Jonghyun.
Time after time, he would whisper words of comfort into his ear, weave his fingers in the constantly changing hair color, marveling at the different textures and details. He would sit, the younger male bundled up in his arms- or even sometimes in his lap, on his chest; anything he was comfortable with- and he would simply talk, or cry, or rant angrily about different topics and events, but one topic would always pop up. The leader was a quiet, soft-spoken man, so he wouldn't say much, just listen and offer short responses or advice for the other boy that would spew his emotions from his shapely lips out for him to hear, because he trusted him. Key would tell him all about everything, and all about Jonghyun, even though the man already knew plenty about him- they were friends and groupmates as well- because he trusted him.
Jinki would listen because he loved him.
He would tell him, sometimes, about how upset Jonghyun made him, and he would cry, cry tears that held the same potency as blood pouring from a wound, and the next day, he would speak about him with a twinkle in his deep brown eyes, a dusting of light pink across his face.
"You're such a good friend, Jinki."
The feline male would say, his cheeks in perfect little lumps atop his face as he smiled a sweet, fond smile to him. Jinki loved that smile; it filled him up with so much emotion- and he would smile goofily back, wanting nothing more than to brush the back of his fingers down the curve of the boy's jaw- but restraining himself.
Then Key would smile at Jonghyun, a dazzling smile that took Jinki's breath away every time- and also broke his heart every time, because it wasn't directed at him. It wasn't his smile. It was Jonghyun's.
I could be so much better for you, Key. Jinki would selfishly think as he held Key tight to his chest to soothe the boy.
It was Jonghyun again.
No, Jinki would never make him cry. Jinki would love him, with all his being, he would make everything better. Jinki would love Key the way that...
The way that Key loved Jonghyun.
But Jonghyun would never love Key that way, and Jinki new it. Key had hope, but the older man knew better. Jonghyun would always think of Key as his most precious person, but not in the way Key wanted- and nothing could change that.
So Key would continue to cry for a hopeless love, and Jinki would continue to hold on to his own hopeless love, only trying to soothe the boy and make things easier for him. He'll continue to be frustrated, but he'll never show Key. He'll never let those beautiful slanted eyes fill with worry for him, he'll only hold him, and promise him silently that things will get better.
Jinki doesn't know if he means better for Key or better for himself.
He knows that he's selfish, but he feels the right, because regardless, Key comes to him still, for comfort. Key trusts Jinki to make things better.
So Jinki holds on tighter and doesn't let go.
