*applause* This was AWESOME! First off, you had Sam pull Dean out of Hell -- how it always should have been. Loved Sam's demon-blood-powered Rocky Balboa, and Ruby as his Mickey. The casting of his opponents was a stroke of genius, from Bela, to Ava/Jake/Max, to Meg, and finally Alastair. I didn't get "MMA" at all, and had to google it. But I absolutely love the idea of Sam taking on ever-stronger demons for the chance to bust Dean out of Hell. Best of all, there was Ruby. Guys, she was brilliantly done! Her motivations and machinations, her inner thoughts, her interactions with Sam and Lilith . . . I feel as if we finally got to know her, to see what made Ruby tick

That was outstanding. After reading in an interview that the show had originally intended for Sam to go darkside to save Dean but had to be changed because of the writers' strike, I've always been fascinated by what they would have done with it. I highly doubt they could have ever done it as much justice as you've done here.
Everything was so visceral. I could literally feel the waves of pain, anguish and desperation rolling off Sam. Ruby, Ruby Ruby. What can I say? You nailed her manipulation so damn perfectly.
As much as I love happy endings, I'm so glad you didn't take that route here. Having Sam literally become a monster to save Dean and have Dean a quivering mess who is desperately afraid of him was perfect. It made my heart ache and I wanted to put Ruby's head through a plate glass window, but that's just the way it should have ended.
The writing is sharp, descriptive and evocative. The art is superb. This is easily now one of my favourite dark!Sam stories ever. Well done.

(due to RL reasons I decided to delete my journal... but all good things)
Thank you for such a fabulous review that completely made my whole entire day! I'm so thrilled you liked the fic and I agree - this is the way Show should've gone. Although I'm flattered you think we did better than Show would've. *blushes* monicawoe did all the Sam bits so all the kudos goes to her. She had a very clear sense of how Sam would've thought and acted and really understood Sam's desperation in a way I didn't and she conveyed that beautifully as well as being the queen of making the demons deliciously scary and real. However, I must say I did a little happy dance that you liked this take of Ruby (I primarily wrote the Ruby-chapters) and thought that all the thoughts and actions here could've been under the surface of canon Ruby and I'm giddy you thought I nailed her manipulation. Even at the start, I had a clear idea of this Ruby and she came to me so fully-fleshed and realized that this take of her is now my headcanon and she's more real to me than the Ruby

(Sorry to jump in but I loved that line, as I thought it was a reminder what dicks angels are, esp in current canon.)
