With a full-time job and a 5-year old in preschool/daycare, I neither have the time nor the funds to go on expensive, week-long writing retreats. At the same time, there’s nothing like having several days to dedicate to writing. My husband and I did two weekends away last year for writing/creative retreats with a few other people, but both times we took our baby with us (he's still under a year old). It was AMAZING to devote time to creative fellowship and much was accomplished both weekends, beyond which we were both energized for several weeks to come.

that's really nice! i dont think it would work with x but that's great that you could get away for something like that with a family :)

Yeah, I imagine as the boy gets older, we'll probably have him go on overnights to the grandparents if/when we want to get away for creative work. My mom takes my brother's three kids for a week every summer, and eventually she'll want to do the same I know for my kids (although at this point, I can't even contemplate spending one night away!)
