Vicki had never liked Valentine's Day. She considered the day too "mushy and sentimental". In her opinion, it was just an excuse to sell a lot of cards, flowers, and chocolate. Henry and Mike, trying to outdo each other, were driving her crazy. Mike wanted to take her to lunch that day. Henry, not to be surpassed, had offered dinner. Even Coreen, currently without a boyfriend, was in on the act. She had suggested a day of shopping and getting their nails done. Since neither of them were "officially attached", Coreen thought they should pamper themselves.
Vicki had quickly and emphatically refused all offers for the day. The office was closed for the weekend, so she anticipated a quiet night alone. As it turned out, Henry had other plans. When dinnertime came, Vicki ordered her usual, Chinese take-out. She was starving by the time the doorbell rang. The delivery boy called out "Chinee food heah", and Vicki chuckled. There were a few delivery boys working for the restaurant. Not all of them were Chinese, and the bad attempt at the accent amused her. Her hunger didn't amuse her however, and she quickly opened the door.
'Stunned' could not describe her reaction when she did. Henry was standing there, food in hand, wearing an ear to ear grin. "You ordah Kung Pao chicken Missy ?" he asked, and began to laugh. Vicki began to laugh as well, as she let him in.
"How in the world did you do this?" she smiled, reaching for the food. "I knew you would order Chinese tonight like you always do. I just 'convinced' the owner to call me when he got an order from "Miss Vicki". When he did, I went and picked it up myself . You didn't want me to take you to dinner. SO, I hope you don't mind that I brought dinner to you? " Vicki shook her head as she ate, smiling at him.
"This was so nice Henry, thank you. I hope you didn't bite the cook though." Henry put his hand to his chest, feigning shock , "Me??" Vicki almost choked on her food trying for some smart comeback.
She settled for just enjoying the meal. Once Vicki had finished eating they sat down in front of the TV. Watching a movie, both of them were soon engrossed in it. Had his hearing not been so acute, Henry would have missed the tiny sounds beside him. He glanced at Vicki, and saw tears slowly running down her face. "Vicki?" he quietly said, never having seen her so unguarded. She looked at him silently, then laid her head on his chest. He held her for a moment, then gently dried her tears. 'Are you alright?, I didn't mean to choose a sad movie.'
Vicki lifted her eyes to his, and shook her head. "It's not the movie Henry, it's..it's you." He looked at her quizzically as she rushed to explain. "What you did for me tonight. No one ever did anything like that for me before. Yeah, anyone can get some food and bring it to someone, but you put so much thought and care into it."
Henry just smiled at her quietly, and said, "I do care Vicki". Suddenly out of her comfort zone, Vicki quickly pulled back. Trying to regain control, she tried to joke. "I..forgot to give you a tip, I need to go get my wallet." She stumbled as she stood up, and Henry caught her. "It's ok Vicki", he soothed, "You don't have to give me a tip. I'll be happy with just this". As he spoke, he gently kissed her on the lips. Vicki hesitated a moment, then softly kissed him back.
They looked into each other's eyes, and saw each others hearts. In that moment, Vicki finally realized the truth. Henry Fitzroy, graphic novelist, and vampire prince, loved her. He had tried to show her his feelings so many times before. She hadn't wanted to see it, hadn't wanted to believe it. Henry could, and did, have any woman he wanted. She couldn't imagine why he would want her. She couldn't 'see', as he did, her inner strength, her courage. The sheer beauty of her heart and her soul. Now, after all these months, she finally understood.
She took Henry by the hand, and silently led him to her bedroom. 0nce the door was closed, Vicki slowly began to undress. Henry held her gaze, but did not move yet. Vicki soon stood before him, clad only in her bra and panties. Henry moved now, watching her reaction as he began to remove his shirt. When he was done, he took Vicki in his arms, and carried her to the bed. He laid her down gently, as if she were made of the finest crystal. He kissed her, then began to remove the rest of his clothes. Vicki's breath caught, but she still didn't speak. He laid down beside her and kissed her deeply. Her hand roamed his chest, and he sighed at her feather light touch. "I know you're wondering if I'm sure about this" she whispered.
Henry nodded, "The choice is yours Vicki, it has always been yours." "I've made my choice" she answered, as she drew him in for another kiss. Henry carefully unclasped her bra, and smiled as she watched him. He gently nuzzled and tasted her breasts as she sighed with pleasure.
"I remember the time I woke to find you in my bed" Henry murmured. Vicki moaned deep in her throat as he continued teasing her nipples. "You were so beautiful in that bra and my robe, I just wanted to rip it off you. I wanted to touch you like this."
Vicki mewled softly as his hand gently slipped inside her panties. His fingers touched and rubbed her as she arched her back in pleasure. Her hand sought out Henry's hardness, and he growled as she stroked him firmly through his pants. She wanted to touch him as he was touching her. Her hands roamed his buttocks and thighs. He slowly moved down her body, kissing and nipping as he went. Sliding her panties off, he quickly removed his own pants as well. Vicki gasped as his lips and hands returned to her. He tasted her wetness, then slipped his fingers inside her, and she almost screamed from the sensation. Her hands moved to her own breasts then, rubbing her swollen nipples.
Henry watched her face, eyes closed with pleasure, and smiled. She writhed as his lips and fingers took her to heights she'd never known. He brought her almost to the edge, her mewling cries of ecstasy making him harder than he'd ever been. With a final taste of her womanhood, Henry slowly slid back up her body. She reached for him, and slowly murmured his name. "Tell me what you want Vicki", he huskily asked her.
"I want you, I want to feel you inside me, please." They looked into each other's eyes as he slowly, gently entered her.
They both gasped aloud as their bodies became one, and Henry started to move inside her, the warmth and wetness arousing him even more. His eyes closed as he lost himself in the feeling of Vicki surrounding him. Vicki moaned softly, continuously, as he entered her and withdrew rhythmically. As she arched into his thrusts, she ran her hands up and down his back. Henry could feel her climax nearing, her movements growing almost frantic. His strokes deepened, became faster, as she breathlessly called his name.
The sounds of her passion made him harder than he ever though possible. He thrust once more as he bent to her neck and tasted her blood. She screamed and climaxed wetly, hotly, as he followed her into ecstasy. Henry held her until her breathing steadied, then slowly eased from her body. She sighed softly as he rolled to his back, bringing her with him. Henry wrapped his arms around her again, stroking her hair. "I love you" he whispered, "Are you okay?"
Vicki nuzzled deeper into his chest and nodded. "I love you too" she quietly murmured. Henry could feel her eyelashes flutter against his skin, and knew she was sleepy. He reached for the blanket and drew it over them. Kissing the top of her head he softly said "Happy Valentine's Day". He felt, rather than saw her smile, as she mumbled "Happy Valentine's Day."
Moments later she was asleep in his arms. Henry held her for a long while, humbled and thankful for the miracle of their love. Not long before dawn, he gently slipped from the bed. Tucking Vicki warmly back into the blankets, he quietly dressed. He took a small box from his pocket, and carefully went back to the bed for a moment.
Kissing her tenderly, he whispered "Goodnight", and was gone. Vicki woke slowly as the sun rose, and smiled as she remembered the night. She felt a slight tickle and brought her hand to her chest. Her eyes opened wide, and she rushed to put her glasses on.
In her hand was a small silver fortune cookie on a chain. The letter V was prettily engraved on the outside. She could see it was hinged, and opened it up to find a small message inside. She smiled and wept at the words printed on the paper.
In our life there is a single color,
as on an artist's palette,
which provides the meaning of life and art.
It is the color of love.
