Nano novel part nine

By the time Trinity had managed to calm down enough to hold Trinity Michael looked at the others.

“Okay, you’re explaining what’s going on. Because really, things have been crazy since we went to the hospital. Tony, where’s your dad anyway?”

Tony sighed slightly. “Relax Mike, Dad’s probably dealing with legal matters. He’s actually quite good at that. And, I don’t think this is the place to tell you all of it. After all it’s not all mine to tell. You’ll have to ask Marcy about everything really. Because I’m not allowed to tell. But everything being done right now is for Trinity’s sake. Dad won’t let his only daughter get harmed again.”

Trinity was actually curled up against the old man hugging Sarah to her. He was rubbing her back gently letting her sleep. “She’ll wake up in a little bit. I charmed her lightly so that she’d sleep through my son’s noise. Figured we didn’t need to scare my great granddaughter more than she has been already,” He did look up at Michael though as he spoke. “I wish to thank you though, for being so caring for her. I know it’s because she’s you’re baby sister, but with what’s been going on. Thank you for being there for both your sisters and your mother. Marcy spoke highly of you, she thinks the world of you and only wants the best for both of you. Even for little Sarah. And your mother will pull through when Alexander called I talked my own doctor into coming as well. I won’t let any of you get hurt again. Though I don’t think that your mother will want to leave here. I just hope that the lesson her father is giving him will change things for the three of you.”

Trinity stirred slightly as she whimpered. He looked down at her rubbing her back lightly trying to calm her down. When she calmed down he smiled softly at her. “Is she always like this? Easy to calm down?”

“Yes, she has been. Though I think the last twenty four hours has been really hard on her. I’m really worried about how this will affect her. I know that Dad wasn’t always the way he is now. Until Trin was about four he was really sweet and doted on her. She was usually able to go out and do things along with hanging out with me and Tony when it came to doing fun things.”

“Yeah you remember when we went to the carnival and she got lost in the fun house?” Tony chuckled a little. “We spent three hours trying to find her?”

“Dad and Mom flipped about that when they found out when we got home they grounded me for a week for not keeping an eye on her. Though I was just relieved that we found her, the punishment was worth it. I would have gladly done that again just to see the look on Trin’s face when she was found. She watched us pass where she was hiding five or six times enjoying making us look for her.”

Sarah cooed a little looking at the others, her baby blues and smile made the three shake their head. Michael smiled as he reached over to his sister taking her hand. “Man, glad you’re not older Sarah, we’d be giving you ideas to make my hair go grey before I turn nineteen.” He shook his head.

There was a smell that started coming from the doorway. The older man frowned at that. “Tony, are you able to hold back that?”

“My shield spells aren’t that great. Mom’s still trying to teach me them. It doesn’t come as naturally.” He did turn to the door after searching for something in one of the closets. Drawing a symbol on the door he touched it chanting a little.

“You drew it wrong.” Michael didn’t know how he knew that the shield was wrong, he just did. Taking the chalk from his friend he redrew it, this time changing a few symbols. Without touching it the markings started glowing bright white.

“How… how did you do that?”

“I don’t know. Just looked right that way.” Michael looked at them. “Did I do something wrong?”

“No, just that spell’s the one your mother would use. I didn’t think that she would have taught anyone it. You must have seen her cast it before.” The elder chuckled. “Or you’re more like her than she thought. Might be why she sent you away. Because she didn’t want you to try to protect her. “

Trinity whimpered again, this time when their father screamed. It wasn’t as if he was in pain, just terrified. Michael took Sarah from her before she could hurt the baby.

“There’s no way to silence it is there? She’s probably going to have nightmares.”

“I can stop the nightmares when it’s over. But you’ll have to trust me on it. I’ll give her other memories and lock the old ones away. With luck she won’t be able to unlock them.” Tony whispered a little. “And looks like I shouldn’t have protected you from the local covens, you probably could have handled them.”

“You mean there’s more out there?”

Tony nodded. “We’ve kept a lot from you the last fifteen years because Marcy didn’t want you or the girls in anything magic related. Doesn’t feel like Sarah has any gift, but neither did you. I doubt she can do anything yet though. Trin on the other hand. She has power, I don’t think she knows what yet. But it’s clear that with her compassion, if she manages to keep it, she’ll be a great person when she’s older. We just have to make sure she doesn’t hurt anyone.”

“She won’t. Trin won’t hurt anyone unless they hurt her first.” Michael was sure of that about his kid sister. She wouldn’t even strike anyone if they tried hurting her on the playground. He doubted she’d start now.

“Hope you’re right Mike.” Tony slumped against the washer. “Hope they hurry up, we should get her to a bed.”

“I’m not letting either of them out of my sight until I get the whole story. Hope you realize that.”
