Funny how the only two characters who seemed to act consistently towards personal motives were Leon and Roxanne. Two characters the writer's seem to think you care the least about.

Do yourself a favor, grab some decent BBC programming and watch Seasons One and Two of Torchwood. Power through the first season as it's particularly formulaic at times, but slow down at the end and enjoy the ride. Episodes of particular note:
S1E6: Countrycide - holy CHRIST yes fuck shit
S1E10: Out of Time - pretty heartbreaking. but in a good way.
S1E12: End of Days - i absolutely love the bad guy in this, and what he does to the team. The end of the episode, not so much, especially the immediate ending, which is the only time you ever get confused by the show intersecting with the Doctor Who main plot.
Season Two, pretty much the entire thing is spot-on except for the first two episodes and the carnival episode. S1E12, Fragments, is particularly amazing.
