TWELFTH DAY: July 8, 2011
At seven o'clock sharp, nothing happens. There is no beep, no sound of the female warden's overtly cheerful voice. Instead, there is only silence, and it lasts for a very unsettling forty-seven minutes. When the intercom eventually crackles to life, it is notably not the same one as before.
There is several drawn out minutes of clanks and bangs accompanied by frenzied muttering. Finally, the racket silences and the voice of an unusually loud-pitched male transmits over the system. He has a thick Brooklyn accent.
"Greetings, ladies and gentlemen of Deadman Wonderland, and a very good mornin' to all! As I'm sure youse can tell, there's been the slightest of -- ... well, let's just say there's been a shift of power, ahaha!"
The man laughs a bit too hard, and he stops to cough. He's clearly a bit strange.
"Yours truly be your new warden from here on out, an' I can't wait to make the acquaintance of each an' every one of ya. Truly. 'Case you numbnuts are as dumb as I heard and actually can't keep track of tha' days without bein' told, today just so happens to be July 8th, a Friday. The current time is, uhh ... 7:46 AM -- wait, wait, the bugger was tryin' ta' fool me! 7:47 AM, folks. We got ourselves a beautiful, crappy day outside with a better chance of thundershowers than you can shake a bordachuck at. I bet the lot of you have great weekend plans, eh? Hahaha!"
"And with that, I'm off. Ciao, suckers!"
The man doesn't bother with shutting off the intercom. He loudly pushes his chair back and shuffles a bit before a voice speaks to him from the background. Some of the more unfortunate inmates may recognize it as the Doctor. The two voices clash for a moment before the man again returns to the intercom.
"Aite, aite, apparently I gotta give you kiddies an event. Go make some friends or somethin', huh? Betcha can't handle that!"
It seems he's figured out how to turn the machine off, at least. Silence follows. The doors finally unlock and slide open.
