THIRD DAY: June 29, 2011
At seven o'clock sharp, the intercom snaps on with the usual loud beep. And also as usual, the warden's voice kicks in. Too loud and very cheerful the entire message through.
"Good morning, little criminals! Today is June 29, a Wednesday. The current time is 7 AM."
"Today, the weather will be sunny and warm. You can enjoy it out in the courtyards! The sale at the shops continues until Friday, as noted yesterday."
"We have prepared a puzzle for your enjoyment. The first person to guess the correct answer-- a post with screened comments will be put up on the network, you can reply there-- will be awarded 20,000 CP."
"One day, the warden decided to play a game with her prisoners. She selected three of them-- let's call them Euphemia, Nanashi, and Sho-- and had them blindfolded and taken to her office, where she placed a hat on each of them and explained to them the rules.
'Each of you is wearing a hat. It's either red or green; there are no other colors. Now, I had three red hats and two green hats, but I picked which ones to put on your heads at random. If you can figure out what color you're wearing, you'll be scheduled for early release!'
She set the prisoners up in a row, front to back, so that Euphemia could see Nanashi and Sho's backs, Nanashi could see Sho's back, and Sho could see neither of his fellow prisoners. Then she took their hats off, and asked them what colors they were wearing.
Euphemia said, 'I don't know.' Nanashi said, 'I don't know either.' And finally, Sho answered, 'I know what color my hat is.'
How did he know? And, what color was his hat?"
"Thank you, and have a wonderful day at Deadman Wonderland!"
The cell doors unlock, and slide back.
