I read somewhere that in most European countries they don't allow cats to get declawed because it is considered cruel. I disagree with this. All of my cats are de clawed and although I realized they probably endured some pain after the surgery, it only took a few days for them to heal and they went right back to being just as active as they were ( Read more... )

actually the humane society also (atleast they used to) consider that cruel and unusual punishment. They wouldnt allow my mom to get a cat back in the day.
Im not sure whether or not I agree or disagree with it.

hey now I didnt say I agree or disagree with it.
I understand both sides. In the case of a cat getting declawed this is purely so the animal doesnt tear up furnature. in regards to the animal being spayed or neutering this is so that the animal doesnt create other animals that end up getting euthanized.

I'd have to say I'm impartial to the matter.
Personally my cat has been trained not to claw up the furniture and she's an outside cat.
Theres also a bunch of cats around that like to fight so I dont think getting rid of her primary weapon of choice would be a good move.
However if I had an indoor cat you better belive that shit would be gone like the wind.

The reason it is considered cruelty, even in the U.S., is that you can't just remove the claw, you have to remove the knuckle that holds the claw. So they aren't just losing a nail, but the knuckle too.
