Have you thought about the solution (a little workaround) to use the scanner from a VM running under your windows 7?
That would allow you install a host machine running win xp to use your Canon scanner when you need it (using virtual box from Oracle for example, it's a very easy VM hypervisor).

Made me think also that I have an HP Scanket 7450C sitting around here gathering dust : P Could think of giving it for a worthy cause but the old guy is so heavy the shipping would be not logical as Mr Spock would have said :P

I think my knowledge in computer matters woulde be far too small for something like that. I am not even sure I understood all of what you just suggested there. :/

Heavens yes, the Scanjets are monsters! In size and noise.... but still. :/

Sorry for the computer babling and me failing once more to make it accessible. I'm really poor at explaining things so that might not help you to follow *bops himself on the head*

Don't you have a german computer nerd handy to help you a bit with those matters? Those can come in handy I've been told !

Hahaha, don't worry about it. I am veeeeery insecure about computer matters and even more protective about my current baby, as it's the first computer I bought entirely off my own money and so far it's the smoothes running baby ever.

Plus English computer babble makes things a bit more tricky for me. ^^;

Hm... I am all out right now, I'm afraid. XD But I might get my hand on one eventually.

There is a software called VueScan that can operate many scanners that won't work on Vista or Windows 7 anymore due to no drivers being available.

That is how I let my Epson perfection 1650 live on even with vista, until I found a driver some blessed soul wrote on their own for it.

you could also run a virtual machine.

windows 7 lets you run a virtual machine and you can install the windows XP drivers on it.
