heritage

seeing as i don't really have that much of a heritage. that is, one must look back many a generation before finding some form of culture, because let's face it, australia, as a country isn't brimming with culture. and even when one gets there i'm irish which i've never felt a strong connection to and over those generations it's been diluted greatly. i wish i did feel a great connection to ireland particularly as st. patty's day would be fantastic. i do like the fields of athenry however and i suggest you all listen to it at one point, particularly the version by dropkick murphy's. but back to the point, here's my poem about my family and the things i've inherited. and i actually got it to rhyme. and don't judge me on the first stanza, i know it's horrible.

the lungs of a man,
who is thrice my years,
tar, so full and thick,
it may cascade from my ears.

legs destined for pain,
that shall cripple soon.
yet a love for the game,
that would hasten their doom.

a love of the punt,
and a love of the drink.
two habits, nan says,
would cause me to sink.

but spirit ive got,
that's culture, bred in war.
many more shots will it take
'fore i hit the floor.

the spirit of a fighter
