Solve et Coagula

IMPORTANT NOTES
Solve et Coagula is a sensitive location, and any sharing of the coordinates of the information are done by people who live there, given with the admonishment not to tell anyone else. The reason for this being the presence of homunculi, especially Envy, and to prevent any infiltration of the location. Edward and Alphonse especially are committed to keeping this location a secret, and it is backed up by several attacks that have happened in the past, one of them nearly fatal. The Elrics are taking no chances of a repeat.

This is not to say that Solve et Coagula is infallible, or impossible to find. We are not expecting it to remain a secret forever, but to prevent wholesale chaos (which happened the last two times their location was given away) we ask that you please discuss the course of action with us OOC. We'll be happy to plot with you.

Alchemy

Alphonse is capable, in his own words, of analyzing, deconstructing, and reconstructing physical (and in some cases, metaphysical) matter on an atomic level through force of will. With the touching of his hands or the drawing of a proper array, Al can channel his will to rearrange the world around him by atoms and molecules.

He has extensive knowledge of chemistry and physics, and knows the construction and functions of the human body in detail. He has extensive knowledge of the elements of the periodic table and how they interact with each other, and his mind is constantly swimming with formulas and mathematical equations. So long as Alphonse has the materials and knows how they go together, he can make almost anything he wants to.

Al can copy an object if he has an example, fix a broken one if he has all the parts, and even repair burned objects -- including books, even if he hasn't read them. Like his brother he's very good at shaping metals and other things with very fine molecular structure.

However, he has to follow the laws of Equivalent Exchange. He can't make a pebble into a statue (though he could do it with a boulder) and he always ends up with the same amount of material as he had when he started, though it will be in a different form.

Al has dabbled in botanical alchemy and can help a plant to grow, though his skill isn't nearly up to par with the Russell and Fletcher.

Though he's studied it, Al also has very little experience in performing biological alchemy, other than the construction of a human body. He considers transmuting chimeras (fusions of more than one animal) to be cruel, and won't ever consider doing it -- but that also means he is unable to reverse any biological transmutation that's taken place. If he had to he could transmute and fuse skin together to stop bleeding, but that's a different matter.

Deconstruction: During events that have twisted Al's psyche, Al has proven himself to be easily capable of Deconstruction, or the sundering of molecular bonds. This manifests itself in the "implosion" of tissue, leaving a living creature as a bloody mess. This effect can be as thorough as Al wishes, from limbs, to organs, to an entire body. Again, this is something Al is, power-wise, capable of doing -- that doesn't mean he is emotionally capable of doing it.

Deconstruction is a touch-based attack, but no armor or shields can guard against it. The only possible defense is to interrupt Al's ability to do alchemy at all.

Soul Alchemy is a bit different. When Al was almost ten his soul was removed from his body and attached to a suit of armor. He was reattached at age fifteen. Because of this, his soul is more malleable than a normal one, more flexible and able to be worked with.

Through careful work and extensive testing, Al found that he can fragment his soul and seal a fragment inside of an object. It will later automatically return to Al whether he calls it back or not after about six hours. At his highest point, he could control up to three suits of armor at one time and remain standing and able to fight and hold conversations normally. He could place a larger fragment, putting his mind and voice into one target object, though his body would go into a comatose state. He could not perform alchemy from these objects, only from his body.

NOTE: As of his death on 1/3/2010, Alphonse is no longer able to perform soul alchemy, and will not re-learn the ability.

Pactio

Alphonse Elric has formed a Pactio Contract with Negi Springfield.

A Pactio is a magical contract binding a mage (Magister Magi) and their partner (Minister/Ministra Magi). A mage is most vulnerable while they are casting spells, and there to protect them is their Partner, sometimes called their Fighter. This Partner shields the mage from incoming attacks and provides a wide variety of backup, depending on the Partner's unique abilities. This may be from fighting, to magic-cancel, to shielding, to information-gathering, to precognition, to more magical firepower... anything.

Pactio is a very powerful magic, and traditionally, Partners are composed of a man and a woman, though it isn't uncommon to have a same-sex team. Because of the trust and bond formed with entrusting your life to someone else, many people who form Pactio contracts together eventually fall in love and get married. Pactio magic is closely associated with romantic love, and usually those who form it have to lip-lock to get the magic to take effect. (Although Al and Negi didn't, they opted for the "open veins, swap blood" deal.)

So far in the manga (from where he is being pulled, anyway), Negi has formed Probationary Contracts with seven of his students: Asuna, Konoka, Setsuna, Nodoka, Yue, Chisame and Haruna. Each one of these contracts allows Negi to become partners with the corresponding person, allowing him to transfer a bit of his power to the person involved, improving their natural abilities and giving them a barrier against physical attacks. In return, the person involved in the Pactio gets a special item, or Artifact, that suits the person's personality and abilities. (For example, Nodoka is a very timid bookwormish girl who probably wouldn't be capable of doing anything even remotely considered evil. Her Artifact is a book that can read the thoughts of whoever she wishes.)
