i'm currently trying to plan a trip to new york for the end of this month. we've found cheap flights and getting time off work is not an issue, but the thing that is puzzling me is HOTELS.

for those of you who have visited new york:
1. where did you stay?
2. how much did it cost?
3. do you have a website you can send me?
4. THANK YOU!

Yo,

The last time I went to NYC...

1. I stayed at the Vanderbilt YMCA -- the rooms are small and nothing special, but how much time do you really plan on spending in your room? Also, the location is pretty great.
2. The room cost between $50-80 per night.
3. Yes. http://www.ymcanyc.org/sub.php?p=about&sp=vanderbilt/vanderbiltabout

i was going to suggest the hostel at the Y as well.
but if you want, drop me an email with all of your trip info (dates, who, etc) and i can ask my friends in nyc if they can offer a place to crash (which im sure they could seeing as i just let 4 of them crash here for 2 days)

hey, thanks for the offer amy! but we decided to wait until early next year perhaps since it was american thanksgiving that weekend and it would have been really really dumb to try and travel then.

if you fly in to JFK use the airtram it's like 5 bucks per person one way but you get to see all of queens since it's overhead.

Then the subway fair is 2.00 it's underground but it will take you over the queensboro bridge and you can see the manhattan skyline coming out of long island city.

cab fair from the airport to the city is 47.80 one way.

Both are about the same travel time 1 hr.

I don't know how much traveling your planing in nYC but they sell one day metro cards for 7.00 where you can hope on and off the subway and busses. It's alot cheaper than a cab which starts off at 4.00 initial fair.

http://www.panynj.gov/ that's the airtram

www.mtainfo.org that's for buses and subway.

PS did I mention I avoid taxis haha. I'm always in NYC so if you need any help just poke me.
