Reita sat next to Kai and across from Miyavi wondering how the hell he got here. One minute he was being bustled around by Uruha and Aoi and the next he some how ended up with Spazz and Kai. All he wanted to do was go visit Ruki, but the two guitarists were as his house at seven in the freakin’ morning and he spent till three with them and now he was with Kai and Miyavi at some…weird café at six something at night. Miyavi was jumping up and down chattering excitedly about his little princesses and darling wife. Kai would nod enthusiastically and Reita just wanted to stab his own eye out with a fork. Seriously…he was going to hang with Ruki all day, he was going to chill with his best friend. Oh, but no, he was being man handled around by his friends. Would this long day ever end?
Suddenly Kai’s phone rang and Reita glanced at the drummer. He picked it up and began speaking in short answers. After a quick ‘bye’ he hung up and stood up stretching.
“Oh, I just got a call from Jin, he needs help with something for his drums. So I have to go, you coming Miyavi?”
Reita stood up and stretched, grabbing his jacket he put it on.
“Well, I’m gonna go now, it was nice seeing you again Miyavi, you two kids don’t stay out too late.”
Miyavi childishly stuck his tongue out and pulled Kai along, the drummer yelling at Reita before he was forcefully dragged out the door.
“Oh! If you don’t mind Ruki needs help with something at his apartment!”
Reita nodded and walked out the door finding Kai and Miyavi mysteriously gone. He really wondered if he should be worrying over Kai’s safety. Shrugging it off he went to his car which was sitting in the parking lot of the café they were at. Getting in he started the car up and closed the door. Driving he hummed along to the song on the radio. Parking in the parking complex of Ruki’s apartment he got out and walked to buildings entrance, he really didn’t want to seem desperate to get there, because he totally was not desperate to see Ruki. Nope, not at all. Walking in he waved casually to the kind old lady at the reception desk and went to the elevator. Pressing the up button he waited for the door to open and stepped in once it did and pressing the button to the floor he wanted to go to. Thirty seconds into a elevator song later the door opened letting him off onto Ruki’s floor. Walking the few feet distance he got to Ruki’s door and knocked.
“Come in!”
Came the muffled reply and Reita walked in taking off his shoes and hung up his coat. The smell of garlic and tomato sauce hit his nose when he walked into the living room.
“Ru?”
“In the kitchen!”
Reita walked into the kitchen and blinked a bit looking at Ruki who was in front of the stove.
“Oh, were you expecting someone for dinner?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Who are you expecting?”
“They’re here already.”
“Really? Who is it?”
Ruki dished up two plated of spaghetti and garlic bread and set them on the table and looked at Reita.
“Well, he’s standing in my kitchen now.”
“Where, I don’t s…oh…you mean…me…?”
Ruki nodded and poured some red wine into two glasses on the table.
“Won’t you sit down?”
Reita nodded and sat down on the chair and scooted in. He suddenly felt very relaxed and at ease.
“So, what’s the occasion?”
“Mm?”
Ruki sat down after brig two glasses of ice water, to wash down the wine and food of course. Looking at Reita he set his head on his hands and smiled.
“Well…it’s a special day.”
“Uh-oh…I don’t remember, I’m sorry, please don’t hurt me?”
Ruki chuckled and smiled at Reita, mocha eyes shinning in the kitchen light.
“Its fine you don’t remember, but I remember because it’s the day I met someone who changed my life.”
“I am completely lost.”
“Silly, it’s the twelfth anniversary of the day we met. I know its silly for me to keep track, but you changed my life. If I never met you, I don’t know where I’d be. I was that poor little seventeen year old boy no one wanted. Then I met you and Kou, what a crazy bunch we were…”
“Yeah, our pink hair, that was just…no…never again.”
Ruki kicked him on the table and brought his finger to his lips and laughed.
“Shut up, Aoi might be near! Like the ninja he is…”
“How could we miss that bright pink hair? Seriously, someone might confuse him for Jeffree Star for a moment.”
Ruki choked on his water and began coughing, hitting Reita on the hand from across the table. He smiled and took a moment to calm down.
“Rei-chan! That’s not nice, he’s your elder!”
“The day he actually starts acting like my elder is the day I will be nice.”
Reita took a big bite and smiled, savoring the flavor of the spaghetti and the sauce. It was sweet and tangy, he really liked it. The two ate and spoke of old memories, the good, the bad and everything in between. Even when they had finished eating they still sat at the kitchen table in deep conversation.
“Wait, I have something, I know you don’t like sweets…but I knew you’d like this.”
“Huh?”
Ruki stood up and went to the freezer and pulled out a box with the letters DQ on the side. Setting the box down Reita peered into the box as Ruki removed the dirty dishes and came back with two fresh plates, a knife and forks.
“It’s a Kit-Kat ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.”
“Holy shit.”
“T-that’s f-fine right?”
Ruki stuttered hoping he didn’t get something the bassist didn’t like.
“Right now I am debating on just tearing into this cake or freakin’ kiss you.”
Ruki blushed a little and pulled the cake from the box and began cutting it into slices and placed a slice on each plate. Setting one plate in front of Reita and one in front of himself they enjoyed the dessert.
“Seriously, I meant when I said if you keep doing these small things I am going to marry you.”
Ruki rolled his eyes and spoke softly.
“Help yourself to as much as you want, with this one piece lord knows how many hours I’ll need to work out.”
“You make it sound like you’re fat!”
Reita swallowed down his last bite and looked at Ruki.
“Well, I am getting chubby…”
Reita rolled his eyes and got up and kneeled next to Ruki’s chair and pinched his sides.
“Hey! Don’t pinch me.”
“Huh, maybe you’re right,” Reita teased. “Might wanna lay off the cake!”
Ruki bopped him on the head and stuck his tongue out. Reita smiled and poked him in the side again.
“So, what made you suddenly want to celebrate this? Going all out, I am surprised, you don’t even like to do things like this for your birthday.”
Ruki was silent and nibbled on the ice cream cake.
“Well…uhm…”
“Something wrong?”
“No, I just don’t know how to phrase it, I don’t like being put on the spot but…oh, uhm.”
“Ru? Come on I won’t judge.”
“I know, I am just a little shy…”
“Oh? Shy? Says the man who sang in front of thousands at Tokyo Dome and has no shame pretending to jack-off with a water bottle?”
Reita grinned as Ruki turned red and began eating his cake faster.
“Come on Taka-chan, tell me?”
He watched silently as Ruki scrunched his nose up and began thinking. Ruki turned towards him and fiddled with the hem of his shirt. Reita grabbed Ruki’s hands and held them in his own, looking into Ruki’s mocha eyes.
“We’ve know each other for twelve years, like you said, what is it?”
“W-well, uhm, K-Kou noticed something was wrong with me and I told him what was wrong and to-together we came up with this idea…I…”
“Come one, Taka, just tell me, remember best friends for life?”
He noticed the younger cringe at the words and frowned.
“Taka?”
“I…I really like you and…I have for a really long time…by like I mean, l-like like…”
With that Ruki shot up like a rocket only to be pulled down into Reita’s lap. Looking at Reita through blonde bangs and wide brown eyes he shook in fear of rejection. He didn’t want to lose his friendship with Reita, he really didn’t. soft whimpers leaving his throat.
“Oh, Taka-Chan…why are you shaking? Taka…shh, shh. I like you to, a lot…I’m actually kind of glad you told me first…I didn’t want to loose our friendship. I was content with being your friend and now…I can have you all to myself as a best friend and boyfriend.”
“You’re not disgusted? W-wait you like me?”
“Yeah, I mean you’re an amazing singer, an awesome personality, adorable and a great friend. What more could I ask for in a person?”
Ruki suddenly found his necklace to be the most amazing thing in the world. Reita smiled and nuzzled his face into blonde locks.
“So…is this why I was kidnapped by crazies all day?”
“Yeah…I didn’t want the surprise spoiled…”
“Well, I liked it, thank you, Taka.”
“Your welcome, but Aki?”
“Yes?”
“Are we…uhm…”
“Going out now? Only if you want to.”
“I would like that.”
“Now, lets go watch a horror movie, you pick.”
“Alright.”
Ruki smiled and got up off Reita’s lap and helped up the bassist. After putting away the leftovers, they went to the living with some snacks and drinks and watched movies until both of them fell into a comfortable sleep on the couch. Reita really couldn’t have asked for a better day.
